“It could have been great but wasn't.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 August 2011

I'm going to write the bottom line first: I would never stay here again.
The neighborhood: seemed safe and quiet, but I didn't explore it at all except to buy a yogurt at the tienda across the street. Not near tourist stuff, so it seemed.
Check in: I walk in the lobby to the welcome poo left on the floor by the owner's dog. When I mentioned it she just laughed. My f flight had lost my luggage and she was very kind and said she'd call the airline for me the next day to inquire about it. The lobby has one computer, which I used to email.
The room: smaller than my bathroom in the States with no windows or decorations whatsoever. I was just staying one night though, so no big deal, but I did feel claustrophobic. The tiny bathroom had one small vent-window that apparently shared with the guest's bathroom on the other side. We could easily hear each other's private business. Gross.
Sleep: I would have slept well on the comfy bed, but due to very loud rude guest, I did not. Guests come in at all hours of the night, buzzing the front door bell relentlessly, and talking loud as to have no respect for other sleeping guests.
Breakfast: simple but good breakfast cooked in the terrace overlooking beautiful historic Quito. Staff is very nice.
Check out: I gave my key to an older man and he didn't say goodbye or thank you or anything. All other staff though was very nice.
Overall: The thin walls and loud guests ruin this small, family run hostel. Otherwise, it was a good deal for solo budget travelers like me.

Room Tip: ask for a room with windows

Dear guest
Regarding your comment here I will clarify all your points:
Neighborhood, Yes it is quiet and not to tourist place as la Mariscal thast why lot of people like it !! we strongly recomend to search more about the locations of where you think to stay in order to avoid any misunderstanding.
"poo left on the floor by the owner's dog. When I mentioned it she just laughed" We apologize about this the dogs are not allowed to come down at the lobby but sometimes their go downstairs any ways we will take this part of the critic to fix this matter, we have already talk to the person who was in charge at that time and explained to us than inmediatly other person came to clean that up.
We offer WIFI in the whole place, the computer at the lobby is only in case some people dont bring their own devices.(most customers bring their own devices)
Once you booking trough tripadvisor it take you to hostelworld where you can read descriptions of every room, in this case is clear describ than this bed room doest not have any window, but you can always talk to the person at the reception to help you in moving rooms.
Sleep: We told guest to be respectful with other guests but some people doesnt care and at this point we do our best to keep the hostel quiet.
Check out: first of all is disrespect to call a elder man as old man,He is the owner, unfortunately he do not speak english.
Overall the prices we charge are very cheap this is a budget hostel, for a single bed room you paid only $13.50 wich included 22% taxes, free wifi, towels, body soap, daily house keeping, guest kitchen, free lugagge storage, bilingual staff, free security lockers,24h hot water, clean sheets, well located near to all the important places in Quito etc,etc..........., if your expectations were diferent next time you should not book a room in a budget hostel.

“I did not like it”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 July 2011

The hostel is ok (although it's better not to walk around at night).
I did not have a good time there - I felt like my money was welcome but not me.

They serve breakfast on the terrace for 2$ (1 croissant, scrambled eggs, fruit juice and tea/coffee). WiFi is available but very very slow from the room.

There are other options in the historical center (cheaper and better in my opinion).

I see you have be changing your comment, that’s weird because you had a total different opinion one week ago so this suggests that your comments are not credible Quito is big city is not a small town anymore and become dangerous and is not only San Blas neighborhood is anywhere in the city but even in the area where you stay after is worse because that neighborhood is considered red zone (the most dangerous zone), this is government responsibility so this point is not objective, you should claim this to the Ecuadorian Government.
Ecuador is an expensive country and $2.00 here is nothing for a breakfast you received and we do not force you to buy it in here you free to buy breakfast any where you like, as you though breakfast is expensive other guest like it very much and not complain may be because they already know than Ecuador is not that cheap, so this is not relevant.
WIFI (in the time you stay in here I told you at the check in there was some other people downloading pictures and movies and the connection get pretty slow).
Yes, there is other fine options at the historic center and you are free to stay anywhere you like no one force you to come here, we clear explained, prices, where we are located, what we offer, what rooms looks like we don’t hide anything to customers we like to be transparent, also is not relevant to compare us to the place you stay after you left Chicago Hostel because that place rent rooms for hours (lovers couples) and of course this place are much more cheaper than us because they don’t care about cleanse and they don’t pay taxes as we do.

The owners of this place are VERY helpful and friendly and will give you lots of information. I loved the view from the roof top terrace! Rooms have good rate and have WIFI, only the WIFI connection is terrible in room and terrace.

“Great Place to Stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 June 2011

I stayed here for a week after filming a documentary in the Amazon. The staff were amazing and when I left, felt like I was leaving family. The price was extremely affordable and if I had friends going to Quito, I would highly recommend it!
