“Good location, not much happening at night”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2012

We stayed here in early Feb., had the "Chulla Quiteno" suite with jacuzzi. A great value at $61.00 per night. The hot water was OK for a shower, not really good enough for the hot tub, although we took a soak each of the three nights we were there. Breakfast was OK, eggs, juice, rolls, tea or coffee in a "restaurant" on the premises that seems to exist only for the hotel breakfast - it wasn't open at any other time that we could see. No help booking tours, but did recommend a travel agent less than a block away than can get this done for you. As noted elsewhere, not far to attractions, and a supermarket next door. The immediate area shuts down at sundown, seek your fun elsewhere at night. Nice patio areas, including one on the top floor with a good view of El Panecillo and the Virgin of Quito statue.

“Old town, nice feeling, and indigestion”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 January 2012

The Hotel San Francisco de Quito appears to attract budget-minded travelers of all ages. For $70 a night, we stayed in the honeymoon suite for five days at the very top of a five-story walk-up. The hotel overall is convivial and within easy walking distance of the main historic attractions. (It's important to know the old town rolls up the sidewalks by 8 pm and you'll have to go uptown for any real nightlife. Two bucks by cab to Mariscal bar district.) The hotel's staff is young, genial, laid back and ready with information. The chief failing is that a very poor and unchanging breakfast is included in the room price. If you like awful tasting bread, cold coffee and greasy fried eggs, you'll be more than pleased because this is what you'll get everyday. We gave up on it.

Room Tip: Avoid No. 23

“Good location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 January 2012

We are a family of 5, this was a very comfortable, hotel. We had rooms at the back of the hotel so very quiet & cosy. The hotel staff were helpful & friendly. Only a short walk to most of the attractions in the old town.

“Great value and location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 January 2012

Charming, Spanish style hotel offering a great value for a central location, just a few blocks from Iglesia de San Francisco, La Plaza de Independencia and the cafes, restaurants & bars of La Ronda. I stayed in a room on the second floor that offered two double beds, a tv and a small bathroom with shower & hot water. Although the room didn't have windows, the French style room doors allowed in light. The front desk staff was extremely friendly & helpful in booking tours & outings. There are 2 computers available with wi-fi, but very slow. Old Town is a great location for sightseeing, but shuts down at night. If you want to experience the best restaurants and nightlife of Quito, you are still just a 10 minute taxi ride ($2-5) away. A great option for the budget minded traveler that seeks character over luxury.

Room Tip: Although I was a solo traveler, I was put in a room with two double beds and paid the price of a dou...

“great location in center of colonial Old Town Quit”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 January 2012

This hotel is close to most of the major tourist sights, unlike the hotels in the New Town where most of the tourists stay. We stayed in both the Old and New Towns and found the Old Town to be a much better place to stay. There are tourist police on every block, so safety is no concern, although I believe it used to be. We stayed in room 32, the "honeymoon suite," which had windows on three sides offering a panoramic view of the city and the neighboring mountains. The only drawback to this room is that you have to climb five flights of stairs to reach it from the ground floor. The staff were very helpful and friendly. Breakfast was included. Our cost was $58 per night, which I felt to be an excellent value for all that was offered. We stayed here before our trip to the Galapagos Islands, which was our main destination. We stayed in the New Town after returning.

Room Tip: Ask for room 32.
