“A MOST WELCOMING PLACE !”

La Alegria is more than a place to stay an more than an equestrian experience. It was a pleasure to be there.
When we arrived, we were warmly greeted by Mauricio, a member of the Espinoza family, who showed us to our stunning room, and invited us to lunch in the main house. Mauricio gave us a grand tour, including meeting the horses and watching the milking of the cows. He spoke with pride of the family history at this hacienda.
From our room we had a spectacular view of the lush green property with the mountains in the distance. Our room was beautifully decorated. Next to our room, # 3, is a beautiful, relaxing salon, where there is a nice selection of CDs to listen to, a fireplace, and a deck with a jacuzzi.
The best was yet to come when at dinner we met our hosts, Gabriel and Patti Espinoza. They are the most welcoming of hosts we have ever met. We delighted in our conversation over a delicious meal in the dining room of their home.

We are novice riders, and the experience was wonderful. Guido and Rodrigo, our guides, told us that we passed from "day care" to "kindergarten" on our first ride. We felt safe and in good hands whien we graduated to trotting.

All in all, La Alegria is spectacular!

“3 days I'll never forget.”

I spent three days at the hacienda and enjoyed every aspect of my stay. The room was wonderful. The food was great and differed with every meal. The farm is truly a family affair. Initially I was hosted by Gabriel's cousin, Mauricio, who showed me around the grounds, including the family dairy business. I rode two days, with Mauricio the first day, and with Gabriel the second. They both made sure I was comfortable with the choice of horse, and felt safe as well. I went there by myself, but was treated like a member of the family by Gabriel, Mauricio, and the staff. Three days I'll carry with me always.

Room Tip: It does get chilly at night, so make sure you have an electric heater, or even better a room with a...

“Superb, beautiful, peaceful, exhilarating...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 November 2011

We took a family break to enjoy beautiful countryside, fantastic food and ride in the Andes of Ecuador. Our experience was first class in every way, and the horses were tailored to the abilities of each one of us. Gabriel and Patty do everything to make the stay special. My only complaint, it was not long enough. Many, many thanks, until next time,
Jonathan R. Green & family.

“Great hospitality, super horses, a wonderful place to stay in the Andes of Ecuador”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 November 2011

We just had a wonderful time in Hacienda La Alegria. Not only did we love the place, rooms and food, but we had the opportunity to go horse back riding and loved the landscape and horses. You can tell when horses are well treated. A must when you visit the Andes of Ecuador

Room Tip: Actually they all seemed very good, but no. 8 has a great view and is very spacious.

“Amazing experience!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 November 2011

I must say that I was very excited about our planned visit to Hacienda La Alegria after reading all the glowing reviews. But I was also a little skeptical thinking - can any place really be that great? Well, I have to say that YES it can!! From the moment we arrived and were greeted by Gabriel and Paty we were made to feel totally welcome and at home. They and their staff did everything they could to make sure we were enjoying ourselves and were comfortable. The rooms are beautiful, spacious, clean and very comfortable. The meals were totally amazing!!!! And we really enjoyed the horseback riding. Gabriel made sure we were given horses that were well matched to our riding ability. We rode one day around the hacienda and then took a 2 day breathtaking 'once in a lifetime' adventure out to the volcano and back. Our stay far exceeded all our expectations and I can't wait to return and take one of their longer horseback riding adventures!
