After a few rough choices in accommodation, Vieja Cuba felt like a reward for good behavior.
I arrived on the evening of Christmas Day, which meant it was already dark, already cold, and not a lot of places were open for food or anything else.
This gorgeous converted house felt inviting, cosy, and safe. My tiny room made me feel even more cosy and the oscillating heater, which was blowing warm air made everything toasty. Television with full cable, excellent internet, comfortable bed, hot water, clean, Vieja Cuba ticks all the boxes.
Additionally, they have their own renowned restaurant which was closed on Christmas and on Mondays, so I didn't get to sample, but they did direct me to a place that was open just a block away.
Location, in La Mariscal district, is near loads of restaurants, parks, and easily accessible to the Old Town, and only a $6 ride to the airport (although it's $10 from the airport to the hotel).
Staff, more than accommodating, including the lovely lady that does the breakfast--which is elaborate. You want it, they can make it, and in some cases, are disappointed if you're not asking for it: eggs, pancakes, bread, jam, cereal, granola, coffee, tea, all in a rustic-feeling dining room that make you feel like you've gone back in time but taken all modern comforts with you.
