“Pleasant staff, basic and secure hotel in central location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 December 2009

Most rooms are triples, be sure to press hard if you want a double. These will only be rooms 24, 25, 34, 35, 44 & 45. The rooms are basic, but have power, hot showers with great pressure and cold basin taps. The rooms are generally clean (don't look under the bed) and you get fresh towels daily. The location is central, with lots of travel agencies across the road and all the restaurants and bars you could hope for within <100m from the door. The hotel is secure and you have to knock to gain entrance. Some of the guide books warn this area is prone to muggings. We stayed here twice now and saw the odd shaddy character, but nothing you wouldn't see in any town. Just don't war you phone, camera or wallet around and you'll be fine. Check out the Magic Bean coffee shop a couple of roads back. Free WIFI and the best cheesecake ever.

“Our experience at Junior Plaza”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 July 2009

We were looking for a nice hostal but economical and situated in a good location and we found it. The hostal is small, but the location is ideal for a tourist. The rooms are clean, there is hot water. For us it was a nice place and very economically. The staff is very friendly. Next time in Quito we would stay in the same place.

“Convenient”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 May 2009

Stayed here 2 nights before flying out for my Galapagos cruise, I didn't choose the hotel, it's where the Galapagos tour company put us up. The hotel is a bit inconspicuous from the street. Inside, the guys at the front desk are friendly and helpful. Ask them where you might go to buy something or where to eat and they're there to lend a hand.

The hotel is really conveniently located on Ave Rio Amazonas and only 2 blocks from the main cafe area. There's heaps of convenience stores and stuff nearby.

The rooms are pretty basic, but they have a bed and a bathroom (just a shower, no bath), and that's all you really need. The beds weren't the most comfortable though. The tv didn't have much choice of channels, nothing in English.

We had an early flight to the Galapagos on our last morning and trying to get them to organise an early breakfast for us was a major hassle.

Probably wouldn't stay here again in the future. The location is great, but I'd probably pick a hotel that was a little more upmarket in the future.

“great value hostal”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2008

We stayed at this budget hostal at the beginning and end of our trip to the Galapagos Islands. We arrived at around 10 pm by taxi ($6 from the airport if you pay for a voucher at the transport info counter as you leave customs). The hostel is not signed at street level and we were told by the taxi driver that we should ring the bell next to a large iron grill door but as soon as we approached the door the reception man hit the remote from his desk up a few stairs to let us in. He spoke good english and was very friendly and helpful. We got our key and carried our cases up the stairs to room 38. The room was fairly spacious but mostly filled by 3 single beds. It was very clean but spartan with a en-suite that had a great shower. The beds were fine and the blankets adequate. Breakfast was included and consisted of bread rolls, jam, juice and tea or coffee which was all we needed. One problem was that we arrived having had no dinner and with no food or water and had been cautioned about walking around Quito at night. Reception had water for sale and luckily we found some biscuits in out luggage. Next day we found the surrounding area to be fine and quite convenient though we used taxis to get around as they were cheap.

  • Liked — cheap and convenient
