I paid around $60 -- expensive for Quito, Ecuador -- and was sorely disappointed! I'm sure Hotel Chalet Suisse was nice when it first opened (perhaps in the 60s?), but the room they gave me had broken light fixtures, one tiny piece of soap for both the shower & sink, and was LOUD due to the bars below and the ultra-thin paned windows.
I was then woken up at 7a by hammering as they worked on construction on other floors in the building.
Positives: the included breakfast was basic, but good. They arranged for a cab for me in the morning (they get a small kick back from the cab drivers) and despite my uneasy feeling for going in an unmarked private vehicle, the cost was kept low and is simply how things are done.
