“Mediocre at least”

A nice little B&B on the edge of the party disctrict Mariscal. The house is very warm and welcomy to guests, the free unlimited internet is a big plus, and the staff is friendly. Breakfast is a bit little but very tasty. The room we had, nr. 12. Was damp and smelled moalded. On the day we wanted to check out, there was not waterpresure and we could not shower, the water that came out was red coloured and smelled nasty. When we reported this to the staff, their only respons was, lifting up the shoulders and saying, hey this is Ecuador. Because we spend our time in Quito in several other places, I know this is not always the case and also due to the quality of the hotel.
So that is why I cannot say more than this to be an average hotel, compared to the ones we stayed in, price - quality.

“Out of 3 hotels we stayed in Quito, this was the best.”

The good:
-Best location, in the center of Mariscal but off to the side so you don't suffer any of the night noise.
-A great breakfast is included.
-Internet is free and available.
-TV is included with english channels to keep up on home news.
-Awesome and friendly staff.
-Rooms are inside the hotel and away from the street so no street noise.

The Bad:
-No parking but who cares in Quito

“very cute but you might have trouble sleeping”

We only stayed one night here before our early am flight . La Casa Sol is a very nice and cozy place to stay. It's decorated very nice and the service is wonderful. Very easy to arrange a transfer and the staff offered our breakfast to go and had coffee waiting for us at four am. It's in a great area for grabbing a coffee or something to eat. The only downside to this hotel is of course the noise from the street. Even at four am when we were leaving... still people were walking, singing ect...

“Pretty, but overpriced for what it is...”

We stayed at Casa Sol for a few nights before a Galapagos trip. It is a pretty colonial style building in the 'Gringoland' area of Quito.

It's handy for all the bars and shops, but a lot of people did mention the safety factor and there are certainly some sketchy characters who wander around this area. We didn't have any problems, but the area didn't feel all that safe.

As for the hotel, our room was nice, but a bit weird. For example, we had a big flat screen TV mounted on the wall, but the power lead wasn't long enough to reach the plug! Seemed a bit odd... There's a great collection of books, but when we tried to swap one the staff seemed a bit confused - they virtually accused us of stealing.

It is also quite a noisy area, so we didn't have the best quality of sleep. I think Casa Sol charges very high rates - probably because it's featured in so many guide books. There are much cheaper options in the area, which probably give you a similar standard of accommodation for less.

“Cheery with helpful staff but some rooms are expensive”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 January 2010

Rooms vary in their facilities but are charged at same rate. Management listened well to our concerns. Staff were very helpful. Location reasonably safe with sensible caution.
