“Clean and comfortable”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 November 2011

This great little place is conveniently located for restaurants and bars. It has a gate up front for security. The rooms encircle a lovely little courtyard. Staff almost always has a fire in the fireplace and you can get a beer or a glass of wine and peruse the little library or shop in the little shop. The staff is professional and warm. Breakfast is fruit, juice, bread and butter. Eggs on request. Rooms are modest but very clean and the beds are comfortable.

I just realized I used the word "little" many times in my little review. If you want a large resort style hotel...this is not your place. If you want a true taste of the warmth of Ecuador, it's perfect!

Room Tip: If you are a tall or large couple you may want to opt for two beds. They are a little small!

“Thoroughly nice place to stay and see Quito”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 November 2011

My wife and I stayed at Casa Sol three separate times during our three week holiday in Ecuador. Had we had the loft room for all 3 of our stays then this review would be a comfortable 5 as we didn't it gets a 4. Both rooms (we stayed in room 21 the other two times) had really comfortable beds, tv and an ensuite and both were quiet in what is a noisy city. The loss of a 5th star comes from the fact that room 21 and the loft room cost the same but differ wildly in quality. Room 21 is a fine room but the loft is very good indeed. As such I would expect to have to pay less for room 21. Small gripe but a legitimate one never the less. The room rate comes with breakfast which is very handy as the breakfast is very yummy indeed. The free internet was a nice touch and the staff very helpful and pleasant. The location is good as its near the easy to use bus service and also, whilst being in the lively La Mariscal district, is quiet and for us didn't seem scary in the least (as has been suggested by numerous websites).

Room Tip: Request the loft room because its amazingly nice and costs the same as the other rooms which are nic...

“Lovely, comfortable accommodation”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 October 2011

La Casa Sol was in a great location for getting around the city, the rooms were comfortable and the staff were very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was small and consisted of fresh fruit and freshly squeezed juice. The area on the weekends is a bit of a party area but the location is great and accommodation comfortable. I would highly recommend for someone on a smaller budget who still likes a bit of comfort.

Room Tip: Rooms on the bottom floor have better Wifi access compared with rooms up one floor. Also, if you ha...

“Pretty, but service mediocre”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 October 2011

Stayed here in the suite, Room 15 for several days while I toured Quito. The lobby, breakfast room and lounge were very lovely. At night there was a fire in the fireplace in the lobby making things cheery, but bringing the smell of smoke into my room.
I think there was a new receptionist because she was very unsure of herself and not very helpful. When my room flooded during a rainstorm, the staff was not terribly concerned and just put towels along the leaking wall. From the reaction, I assume this was a common occurrence and explains the periodic moldy smell in the room.
The room was large, but dark as the only windows faced an interior courtyard. However, it was quiet with only minimal noise from the Friday night party scene going on outside in the Mariscal district. The room was clean.

“Would happily stay there again”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 August 2011

Conveniently located close to Foch Plaza in the tourist-friendly la Mariscal area, but just far enough to be away from the crowd noise, this is very good location to have as your base in Quito. The hotel has a brightly painted adobe look. My son and I had the minimal (cheap) rooms both times we stayed, but these were clean and comfortable enough for our purposes. Larger/fancier rooms are available. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly. The little handicrafts shop had better goods at lower prices than anything I saw elsewhere. I never had a complete breakfast there, but what I did have was good. They have WiFi in the lobby / common room only, but they do have it, and its free. Overall a very homey refuge from the hustle and bustle of Quito.
