The L'Auberge has a lot to recommend it;
- Very competitive rates,
- Kept very clean, e.g. the shared bathrooms are cleaned several times a day,
- Good location between the old-town & new-town.
- Nicely decorated so it´s comfortable & homey looking.
- Breakfast not included, but a good choice of reasonably-priced options in the hostal cafeteria.
- Good restaurant on-site with 10% discount for hostal guests.
- Inet access on-site, costs a bit more than the cafes, but very convenient.

Based on this we used L'Auberge for our base in Quito inbetween trips to the Amazon-basin, Cuenca etc.

However my only warning would be that each time we stayed there were issues with the hot water, insofar that on more than one occasion would result in either NO water at all or freezing water only. Each time it was resolved relatively quickly with help from one of the staff, so was tolerable, but unfortunately on the very last morning of our last stay we had an early start and ... wouldn´t you know it ... the hot water wasn´t working again which proved to be a right pain in the a%&$.

L'Auberge Inn is this kind of hostel where u feel comfortable, they have a backyard where you can relax reading or just drinking coffee; The hostel has also wi-fi, and for me that is a plus that makes it more recommended. they have laundry service and computers, with internet, in case u didn't bring yours.Clean beds with good mattresses will assure you a good sleep so you can go out next day and explore the city or whatever you have planned. The buffet breakfast, with two words, natural and delicious. But nothing of this is possible with out the friendly and concerned staff, the manager, the front desk agent , the hostess in the cafeteria and the housekeeping staff.

there's no pool table (but it's written there is one), the internet/computer are very slow and do cost, and there are a loooot of stairs.
but really good service, room is cleaned up every day, really hot water showers, they have a laundry service, the breakfast is quite good and the hostel is central.

Great little place. Comfortable rooms, good location, nice food.
