“cold and a little pricey, but enjoyable and comfy”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 November 2011

We stumbled into Maple after a long stint of asking prices at different hostels in the Mariscal neighborhood. All were fairly expensive, and most had less than desireable rooms. At Maple, our two friends and we were able to get a shared room in our price range (I believe it ended up at $16 per couple, which is very affordable. Individual rooms were much more expensive). It is very spacious, with lots of different rooms to sit in and eat, chat or watch tv. Two of the rooms have fireplaces, which was good because it was absolutely freezing in this hostel at night. The staff was friendly and helpful, and the breakfast was satisfying, if a little dull. Hard to stay on a budget in this neighborhood, so the communal kitchen was very nice.

“low cost, clean, safe, friendly, good breakfast, free internet”

a good-for-its-class hostel/hotel that is friendly, if unspectacular. close to the airport, low cost, with friendly staff and a deliciously fresh breakfast. the rooms are sparse but good value. in life, you tend to get what you pay for - at posada del maple, you get a little bit more. recommended

“Quiet haven in noisy Mariscal”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 October 2010

We arrived here after having to leave Hostel Huauki early because of noise. We were given a really bright airy room (no.5) which had an excellent shower! The room was spacious with cable tv, although not all the rooms have access to the wifi. The only problem with the room was the bed frame was incredibly noisy, so it woke us up if we moved in the night.

We left our bags here while we did a Galapagos tour and the secure lock up was really good. When we stayed when we came back, we had a ground floor room which didn't have an external window so it was a bit dark and dingy compared to the first floor room. The shower was still good.

Overall the hostel was pretty quiet, you could hear people getting up and moving around early in the morning, but there was no loud music or chatting late at night. The breakfast they provide is also really excellent, eggs, toast, juice, tea, coffee, oats and bananas. It's also located in a really interesting building with 2 or 3 different communal areas where you can watch tv (although we think all rooms have their own tvs). Security seemed overall pretty tight and it's very close to the touristy Mariscal aread. We'd stay here again. Obviously this is a hostel, not a hotel so don't expect 5 star comfort, but it is very good for a hostel.

“Charming, Cozy, & Clean on a quiet street with prices that are a little high.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 August 2010

We're about to check out of the Posada del Maple and have really enjoyed our stay. The hostel is on a quiet street with a plethora of other hostels. It's decor is charming with ivy growing up walls, many balconies and terraces, free wifi (that we were able to access from our room), a decent breakfast, and cozy lounge areas. We'd stay longer if the prices were a little more competitive, although, they aren't terrible.

“Great hostel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 May 2010

I've stayed at a lot of hostels and this one has the most "character." It is charming with indoor/outdoor areas, patios, vines, lots of sunlight, etc. The breakfast in the morning is very nice and the best free breakfast I've ever had while traveling. The 1 internet terminal is usually occupied (especially if there is a group of traveling students staying over). It is slow compared to US broadband connections but faster than dial-up. The rooms and bathrooms are average. My shower on the second floor ran hot/cold. I always buy a shared room: once I was in a room with 7 other travelers, the next time I was in a room with 4 bunk beads all to myself. I didn't go out into the neighborhood much but two locals warned me against being on the streets alone around siesta times, 2-4pm (I am female). Kitchen facilities were great and current newspapers were available. The hostel has many "nooks" where you can get some quiet/alone time as long as it isn't too full. There are two TVs in the public areas.
