“There are far better options”

My husband and I visit Quito for business once or twice a month and we love the Rep. del Salvador neighborhood so we were very much looking forward to a stay at the Hotel Dann Carlton. But what a disappointment. If I owned this hotel I would fire the manager and hire someone who understands how important customer service is. We were not welcomed when we checked in, not asked if this were our first visit, we were not told about any hotel amenities or even the specials going on in the bar (signs alerted us.) We asked for a quiet room and were given the noisiest one in the hotel. (No, the hotel was not even close to full.) I asked to move and they did accommodate that, thankfully. Unfortunately, the Internet did not work in the new room so I called (politely) to ask for help. The desk clerk said she would send someone. An hour later I called again and she again said she would send someone. Another hour later I went down myself to get a cable. (Not good for a "business" hotel.) Room service food is barely mediocre. There are far better hotels in Quito that charge much less -- my recommendation is to skip the Dann Carlton, especially if you want to be treated like a guest and not a pest.

Room Tip: Inside rooms are somewhat quieter.

Dear Sirs

First of all we´re very sorry to learn that you had a disappointed experience while you stayed
with us at the Dann Carlton Hotel recently, secondly there´s no excuse for a bad service
provided to a customer specially to those who come to visit and enjoy our city, I´d like to
mention any way that our staff at the front desk is very polite and friendly, actually is one of
the Hotel´s strength and mentioned constantly by many clients who stay with us permanently,
however I´m very sorry that the person who checked you in did not comply with our
procedures which include of course not only provide the guests with all required information
about benefits and amenities that our hotel has to offer but also make sure that you get the
best available room, according to the customer´s request.

I´d like to mention also that our rooms are quite and spacious but due to the hotel location,
which is near to the airport, sometimes you can hear airplanes landing, other than that we do
not have other source of noise or disturbance nearby that we are aware of, however I must
agree that our staff did not made sure that you and your husband get a much comfortable
room and avoid you many inconvenients.

In relation to the Internet access in your room, we don´t get complains frequently about this
service, since we´ve made huge improvements to ensure a full Internet access in all guest-
rooms and public areas, but since I´m taking your complain very seriously I´ll take a closer look
to this point and make sure this service is at full satisfaction in the future.

Thank you and I really hope we get a new opportunity to demonstrate that our Hotel is one
of the best you can get in Quito, I´d like to compensate you and your husband and offer you a
complementary stay in your next visit to town, we´ll be more than pleased to serve and treat
you according to your expectations.

Regards.

Vladimir Carrera

“Calm oasis in lively Quito!”

We were lucky enough to stay in the Dann Carlton in Quito, as part of a visit to the Galapagos and the Amazon rain-forest. Booked as part of a full package by NuevoMundo.com, the hotel was a luxurious and very comfortable start and end point to a most exciting and adventurous holiday. The rooms were large and well-equipped, the restaurant food was simply delicious, and the staff helpful and courteous. Access to the Internet was easy and free to guests at the business centre. A swimming pool on the top floor was an added bonus. The hotel is close to the airport, and a short taxi or bus ride from the old town.

Room Tip: All rooms seem equally good (we had 3 different rooms, all good).

I lived here for a few months and can say that they have consistent service and overall excellent value

You can walk to Quicentro mall and go for a jog at the carolina park which is righ next door (dont go at night)

They have a great gym with great sauna, yoga clases.

You can walk to a few good restaurants on the same street of Rep Salvador.

Breakfast is expensive and boring after 3 days of the same.... Go to CORFU coffe shop instead (it is on Portugal, next corner)

By the way, the sushi place next door sucks - dont recommend

At night take cab and go to Carmine. It is 2 minutes

Of note, dont rent cars in Quito, cabs are VERY cheap

“Excellent Value”

My room at the Dann Carlton was excellent, being roomy and clean. The cable connection for the internet worked fine (although the cable was too short to be positioned to watch TV at the same time). The aircraft passing by - and they ARE low as they pass over the hotel - didn't bother me, but it will bother others. The bar downstairs was also good. The restaurant downstairs had a long selection of food at reasonable prices. The lighting is poor and in the evenings the room has a cold feeling to it. Noticeably there were few diners. However they staff did try hard and my experience was acceptable. The attached Casino certainly wasn't out of a James Bond movie but it seemed separate enough not to bother anyone who might consider this a negative. All in all a good stay and the difference in the rate between that and the nearby Sheraton (which some of my colleagues stayed at) was eye catching to the benefit of the Dann Carlton.

Room Tip: I'm not sure that you're going to escape the aircraft arriving at the airport (at least unti...
