“Rio Amazonas Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 November 2011

Stayed 3 nights in this hotel in October. The staff were very pleasant and helpful, especially in Reception. The buffet breakfast was served from 5am-10am so great if you were starting a tour early or fancied a lie-in! Preparation was a wee bit slow at 5am, but who can blame them?!! The restaurant food was tasty in the evenings with a good selection of mains/ snacks/ sandwiches etc. Free internet was available 30 minutes per guest which was pleasantly unexpected. The rooms were clean, spacious and had safe. Windows were sinngle glazed but we were on 3rd floor so weren't too bothered by street noise. We enjoyed our stay here :)

Room Tip: Higher up would have less noise?!!

“Adequate room, safe location, but not much else”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 November 2011

Stayed here in the beginning of November for one night prior to a trip with Gap Adventures. The hotel is located on a street with a lot of restaurants and bars. I was a little concerned about being able to hear the noise, but I was given a room in the front of the hotel on the second floor and I wasn't able to hear anything.

The rooms are basic but comfortable. I got a room with 3 full or queen size beds. Each had a night stand next to it, and there was a work desk placed against one wall. There was a flat screen TV bolted to the wall, but it wasn't in view of the desk. There was no fridge in the room, but they did have snacks on the table next to the TV.

The hotel has a restaurant next to the lobby and a dining room on the 2nd floor. Breakfast comes with the hotel, but I didn't get a chance to have breakfast there.

The one problem I had was that I was supposed to have a roommate, who arrived earlier in the day then I did. My roommate got to the room first and was provided with a key. Apparently they only have one key for each room. As I was unable to make contact with my roommate, they had to set me up with another room, but they didn't charge me extra for it, so it all worked out.

I would stay here again. Its a basic hotel close to nightlife with helpful staff.

“close to nightlife, close to noise”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 March 2011

Pros: generally helpful staff, nice breakfast in morning, free internet, $4 cab ride to old town or airport ... except in rush hour when it take 2-3x as long to get to either, clean no-frills room. Close to lots of night life and shopping

Cons: very noisy outside on weekend nights - traffic, shouting, police, sirens until well after midnight. Some nearby neighborhoods a bit sketchy after dark.

Culture shock: bellboy offered to direct me to nearby restaurants, discos and prostitutes. Categorize that under pros or cons according to your tastes and sensibilities.

“very nice”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 February 2011

The hotel scores on all fronts, the location is very nice, close to the city center and also to the international airport, thus reduces the extra travel.

The restaurant in the hotel is very nice with good food and again if it is not to anybody's taste then there are a host of restaurants very close to the hotel.

Rooms are pretty decent as well. Overall it was good fun staying at the hotel.

“Good hotel, good location - undergoing upgrade”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 January 2011

I was at the Rio Amazonas for multiple one-night stays in Dec/Jan. The staff is very courteous and the hotel is spotless. The location is right on the edge of "gringoland", which makes it a bit noisy with the clubs/bars nearby, particularly on Saturday nights. The rooms are being upgraded, so some have nice new hardwood floors and better minibars. All have comfortable beds and good linens. Hopefully they'll fix the water pressure in the showers as well (this was hit or miss).
