As most of the reviews have stated, the Hilton Colon Quito is a very safe hotel, in a good location, with clean rooms, and the staff is generally very nice and helpful. I would definitely recommend staying here if you’re searching for a hotel.
We arrived late at night from the United States. After waiting an hour and a half to get through immigration at Quito Airport, we were very cranky and wanted to check into our room at the hotel. The hotel is a quick taxi ride from the airport, which cost about $12 for three people (I think that was on the higher side).
When we got to the hotel past midnight, we were greeted at the front door, and our luggage was quickly taken to our room. Check in was very seamless, and we were in our room within five minutes.
The room itself is very basic, but it was a good size. Views facing the south (or the park) have wonderful views of the city sprawling into the mountainside. Unfortunately our room faced north, and we had a normal city view. Aside from the view, the room had very comfortable beds and was very spacious. The shower was a little strange because of the location of the shower head. I was practically up against the wall while taking a shower because the shower head nozzle wouldn’t aim correctly.
We were on the Executive Floor, so we had access to the breakfast buffet each morning. During the week, the buffet is so-so because it’s in a little area next to the rooms. But on Fridays, and I’m also assuming Saturday and Sunday, the breakfast buffet is in the restaurant downstairs. There is a great selection of warm food, fruits, meats and cheeses, an omelet station, breads, juices, etc. It has everything your stomach desires.
Also, since we were on the Executive Floor, there was a nightly happy hour in a small area by the meeting rooms in the lobby. Service was great! Our glasses were always filled and the bartender did a great job making sure everyone was happy.
We did order room service one night. While the prices are very reasonable and the service is quick, the food was only mediocre. One meal was accidentally left off the order, but the hotel staff quickly resolved the issue.
Taxis are easy to find since it’s off a very busy street, but it’s also easy enough to walk around the area during the daytime.
There are complimentary airport shuttles in the morning, which is a nice touch.
Overall, this was a very nice hotel. We didn’t have very many complaints, but we had a great time staying here!
