“Great Stay at Mercure at Quito, Ecuador”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2012

We were picked up at the airport and taken to the airport complimentary. We snagged a terrific rate at the Mercure. Then, to our delight, they upgraded us to a junior suite number 302 for our two night stay. The room was quiet, spacious, and clean. The only small problem was only one coffee bag is provided for two people and the front desk/restaurant wanted to charge over $1.00 for a coffee for my spouse. Eventually, they provided it complimentary but it took some discussion.

“Unexpectedly Nice”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2012

I booked on-line the night before arriving, paid a very reasonable rate (caution - there is a 22% hotel tax) and was very pleasantly surprised to receive a beautiful suite. Excellent room, nice view if you like overlooking the street.

The negatives were that the room faced the street so there was street noise. However I always travel with earplugs so it was not too big of a problem for me. And there was no alternative to the down comforter - for those who find themselves too hot. And the internet costs extra. Since I was only there for 1 night, I opted to buy 1 hour of internet, which was sufficient.

The positives for me were that the suite was huge, the bed was king-sized, the sheets were good-quality, the room was very clean, and well-furnished. I had to go to the airport very early, and they called a cab for me - other than that I really didn't interact with the staff. It was a good value, and I would/will return.

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the street if you would be bothered by street noise.

“Great Hotel but...”

Overall, the service was fine. The rooms were clean and for the most part, the staff were professional. I found it annoying that they wanted me to provide a cash deposit after a couple of days. When I checked in, I provided them with my credit card information, and I'm sure they know how to block the appropriate amount for hotel stays. My reservation was only for six days.
Their wifi policy is also weird. Everyday, I had to go to the front desk and pick up a new code. They change the codes every 24hrs. There are methods to provide a high level of internet security without having to change every code every 24hrs.
Although the staff was pleasant, they don't like answering questions. One example, I specifically asked why the change in the internet policy because I stayed at this hotel before. Stating that it is the new policy and that's it, is not an answer. Her co-worker had to step in and provide more detail.
Overall, I love the location and the rooms. It is a great value. However, the new changes to the hotel, and some of the staff members need to be improved.

“Lost Ipad returned!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 January 2012

We stayed here 3 different single days on our tour which ended 12/24/2011. While there my Ipad came up missing and I actually accused the staff of stealing it. I was embarrassed when it was found a few days later behind the curtain on the window seal in my room. Kudos to Mr. Diego Naranjo who remembered me complaining about my missing Ipad. He could have written me off as an arrogant American, but instead when the Ipad was found he contacted me by email and made arrangements for be to have it returned. My only complaint was that it was a little noisy on the street side on Friday and Saturday nights otherwise I think you would enjoy your stay here and find the staff honest and caring.
