After a long, roundabout journey designed to save on airfare for 4 people, we were swiftly whisked away to this luxurious hotel just moments from the airport. Never mind that it was after midnight and that we were barely coherent in our own language; everyone from the driver who was waiting for our arrival, to the desk clerk who checked us in and the porter who showed us to our spacious room, put us at ease and made us instantly happy with our decision. No, it's not the cultural immersion experience that many travelers appreciate in hostels and home stays, but for a family with diverse tastes and needs and only one week to take it all in, it was perfect. With Quito's intoxicating altitude, overcrowded city buses, scarcity of public bathrooms (and those few without toilet paper or soap), and unfamiliar foods and language, we were very content to come home each night to this very "American" style hotel. The pool, common areas, and workout room were all great. When my husband experienced a bout of extreme intestinal warfare late one night, the hotel staff were amazing. They had an English-speaking doctor sent to our room, sent an employee to the pharmacy, and even had the on-call custodians clean and disinfect the bathroom at 2:00 am!
