“Felt like home”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 January 2012

we spent there 5 nights in totla in our 25 days of travel in Ecuador and had absolutely amazing time. For ttat value of 10 dollars per night per person with breakfast, it was great. Rooms were vey comfortable, bit basic, but really clean hot showers were working all the time we used them and the staff spoke little bit of Eglish (at least we had to try to speak Snish which was greatlyappreciated), really recommend this hostel.

“Service - WELL over and beyond ! !”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 January 2012

This was a repeat visit to the Travellers Inn in Quito. The difference was - our AA-Flight Miami-Quito, after some circling, two attempts to actually land ~ was diverted to Guayaquil where we re-fueled and after some discussion between the Powers-to-be and the weather gods, it was decided to fly back and make another attempt at landing in Quito which we did totally uneventful. So, in the end - our 11pm flight FINALLY landed in Quito close to 04:00am !
Imagine our total surprise to be met by the smiling face of non-other than CARLOS, the Hotel owner. CARLOS YOU ARE OUR HERO. What other hotel can you think of, where the owner personally comes to the airport to pick up guests so they're not stranded at 4am. This owner family is AMAZING !

Room Tip: The ultimate room is # 301. You have to see it for yourself. Also, this hotel is right across the st...

“Better than average, but not "very good"”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 January 2012

We stayed here for one night before heading to the Galapagos Islands.

They were able to organize a lovely tour for us to the "middle of the world" museum, "middle of the world" park, and to the mouth of an inactive volcano where people now live...there was a lot of fog the day we went, so we couldn't actually see into the mouth of it, but there were some very authentic vendors at the top and there were postcards so you could see what it looks like when the sky is clear.

This part of our trip was amazing. Daniel picked us up at the aiport, was very friendly and knowledgable, and took us around for a little longer than we paid for. Excellent tour of the "middle of the world".

The entrance of the Inn is nice, private, and gated. So very safe. Not everyone who works there can communicate in English...and by not everyone, I mean only the tour guy seemed to be able to function in English.

There were some nice amenities, books and brochures about things to do, a fridge & cupboard with very affordable snacks and beer ($1.50 for a HUGE 1L bottle of beer). Our flight the next day was very early, so we didn't eat the included breakfast, but they said we could help ourselves in the kitchen. If you do this, beware, you will need about 10 minutes to figure out where the light switches are in the kitchen...they are in locations that make no sense. Even with all the lights on, it is incredibly dim, and not the cleanest kitchen I've seen. We decided not to eat anything there. The little breakfast seating area looked nice though.

There were computers downstairs with free internet, and an enclosed backyard area, so that was nice.

The rooms themselves were ok. Simple. I found what appeared to be pubic hair in my sheets though....ew. The bathroom seemed to be pretty clean though.

I was pretty upset though because they didn't help us out much when we booked. I didn't know that until we arrived. If the place was more expensive I would have put up a stink about it, but didn't bother because it was so cheap anyway. But, there were 3 of us travelling together, but they don't tell you that they have rooms with 3 full sized beds in them!!! They charged us for 2 rooms (one for 2 people, one for 1 person) and when we arrived, I had a room with one bed in it, and my 2 friends had a room that could have easily slept 6 people!! They could have mentioned that they could accommodate us all in one room should we want that option....so that was annoying.

Also, we arranged to have someone shuttle to us to the airport in the morning for our very early flight to the Galapagos (at a cost). Got up at like 4am to ensure we would be ready...and our shuttle was over 45 minutes late. Lucky we still made our flights. Wish we had slept in more.

Overall, you get what you pay for. The tour of the middle of the world is definitely worth it. I wouldn't want to stay here for an extended period of time though.

(I should mention that our rooms were in the basement, and that a lot of the traveller's photos I see posted here look nothing like our rooms....it probably matters significantly what room you are in...but unfortunately they don't offer up info on which rooms are different and how....)

Room Tip: Try to find out where the good rooms are...if there even really are any....but from our experiene, s...

“Affordable and Clean”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 December 2011

I wasn't expecting much because of the low rates. I was pleasantly surprised in that Travellers Inn is well run and very clean. The complimentary breakfast was a bonus. Just a great way to start out the day. It's not in the best part of town, but it is convenient to walk just about anywhere.

“Eh, Not For Me”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 October 2011

Stayed one night. Everyone was very nice, but the experience was a bit dodgy for me. Traveling alone. I had a tiny room for one with what must have been a kid's bed and a private bathroom. The layout of the place is peculiar. My bathroom had a frosted glass window that looked into a neighboring room, so when people were in that room talking I could hear them as if they were in my bathroom. Also, when they had lights on my bathroom lit up. I think the window situation probably resulted from the neighboring room having no other window, but putting an adjoining window in another room's bathroom is bizarre. I'm sure it was done to maximize profitability so that other room could be rented. Made me feel unsafe as someone with a criminal mind could crawl through that window and enter my room and steal my stuff or worse. No other room was available with a private bathroom the night I stayed. Staff and owners are all nice and the mood of the place is very social, but it's only for the seriously budget-minded traveler who is prepared to deal with various discomforts for the sake of saving some cash. I arranged to be picked up at the airport and like others have mentioned I had to wait quite awhile before the driver appeared, but it was a beautiful night, so I was enjoying watching the passers by as I waited. I'm reluctant to give the "poor" rating as everyone was so nice. I suppose the rating has more to do with my expectations borne from my experiences staying at hotels, which probably isn't entirely fair as Travelers Inn is more a hostel than a hotel. Not for me.
