“Great spot in Valpo!”

Our extended stay at this superb bed and breakfast lasted for two weeks, but we had such an interesting and enjoyable time that they simply flew by!
The check-in was thorough and comprehensive, with bags of local information and helpful advice on do's and don't's: in fact our host Martin was usually around to suggest interesting places to visit. Local guides were available for personal tours, and since these were for small numbers, they really were personal, giving us the opportunity to get off the beaten track and see parts of the locality that we would otherwise never have seen.
We had an upstairs double with a fantastic view of Valparaiso, and a very comfortable bed: there is a small TV lounge with a book exchange. The breakfast is good quality, and if you like strong coffee, don't be afraid to ask for it - it will be done!
Spotlessly clean, cheerful and friendly staff - a credit to Lisette and Martin. There is a friendly and family atmosphere, a place where visitors from around the world can share their experiences.
There is a cookery school on site, where Boris or Andres take you to a local market to buy the ingredients for the hands-on Chilean cooking exprerience, with accomapanying wines of the region - great fun, and another opportunity to meet people of all age groups over lunch!

Room Tip: 2 upstairs rooms (doubles) have great views of the port and bay.

“Great Stay”

My wife and I stayed here for one night. We had a bedroom with a small bathroom. The bed was very soft. The shower in the bathroom was very small. I could hardly turn around. The water pressure was good. Martin was a great host. We arrived around 7 PM. He walked us around to show us some resturants to eat at. The morning breakfast was a typical for a bed and breakfast. We would recommend these place to everyone.

“Our home in Valparaiso”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 January 2012

Chose this B&B many months ago as a place to stay while exploring this area of Chile. It was a wonderful contrast to the cruise ship life although our cruise included Antarctica and Tierra del Fuego so it was not the typical tropical sail. Martin and Lissette are wonderful hosts, the B&B is so very comfortable and welcoming and it gave us an opportunity to meet other guests who were seeking out some of the same experiences as we. "We" are a senior couple yet the younger guests were most cordial, helpful and polite. Martin stimulated the breakfast table conversation so that we all felt comfortable and learned new things each day. All of the employees were most gracious and helpful and made us comfortable as well. The walking tour with Boris and Andres was excellent, the cooking class with Andres very interesting and delicious, and the other tourist suggestions--vineyards, etc.-- welcomed and not found wanting in any way. The Yellow House is very close to the funicular and easily accessible by taxi if you have too much luggage (as we did) arriving from the ship. We would certainly stay here again because they really do make you feel like family. The only things that kept me from giving 5 stars for the 2 categories were the small amount of noise from the harbor/port area, indicated by only 4 stars for sleep quality and location. I still gave 5 stars for the room, which did have a small bathroom. (But one doesn't usually spend too much time in that part of the room.) An excellent value and a wonderful example of what a B&B should be.

Room Tip: Stayed in the Ocean room which has spectacular views of the city and the harbor. It is a 24/7 port...

“Top quality B&B”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 December 2011

The Yellow House is a small, old B&B on a hill overlooking the Port of Valparaiso. Some of the rooms have excellent views, some have no view. You can select the one that suits you on the web. The property is immaculately clean and rooms are quite inexpensive. The breakfast is excellent and consists of fruit, yogurt, toast, jellies, etc. The host is Martin, a transplanted Australian, and he goes to infinite pains to see that the guests are well taken care of and properly informed of the activities in the Valparaiso area. Breakfast is a delightful interaction among the world travelers who stay at the Yellow House.

We were delighted with our stay and would definitely stay there again. The neighborhood is residential and quite safe. It is close to the Artilliria Ascenscor which accesses all local transportation or is a good starting point for walking. The rooms are quiet though you will sometimes hear a barking dog or two (this is South America).

The Yellow House is very strongly recommended as a cost effective, pleasant place to stay in a very interesting City. If you make a reservation you should probably arrive the first time by taxi because the property is on a steep slope. Further the street it is on is a very quiet side street which isn’t at all obvious. Driving to the property could be difficult the first time.

We had two kids with us and the hosts were very welcoming, full of what turned out to be very useful information and eager to help us any way they could. The view from our room was awesome. It's a stunning spot and worth the trip up the funicular to get there.
