A traveling couple, we arrived unannounced and were given a warm welcome and a comfortable room with own shower, and full access to fridge and kitchen if we wanted to cook. Internet is available to guests, as is a verandah where you can sip your evening cocktail with the whole of Valparaiso Bay spread out far below you. All the staff, who are mostly family, take a personal interest in helping with any problems or enquiries you may have. Breakfast was the best served to us in any accommodation in Chile (and we went up to 4 stars elsewhere). If you are looking for a memorable experience in a comfortable family environment, away from the impersonality and hit-and-miss quality of the cheaper hotels, use Mirador. (and if you want to make a friend for life, pat the dog)

My family's stay at El Mirador was excellent - the ladies who run the hostel learned our names, gave us excellent recommendations for dinner, connected us with a trusted cab driver who watched our suitcases while we toured the city, and generally took care of everything we could need. They switched easily between English and Spanish, making the stay easier for my strictly English-speaking parents. Our trip to Valparaiso was made infinitely more enjoyable due to our stay there.

The El Mirador is a "Hospedaje Familiar" (Family Lodge), so don't expect a fancy room or room service. The room has a full kitchen and your choice of beds, a small bathroom and a TV - the room is VERY clean! From the balcony you can view beautiful Valparaiso. The owner, Maria Soledad, is ONE of those especial people - she will work hard to make you feel at home - really treat you like family. One night there was a black-out on half of the country and we were going out for dinner - Maria said we should stay for our safety and we ended having sandwiches and wine at her home table having a great conversation with her and her mother - also a fantastic person to talk too. This place is HIGHLY recommended! Oh, and they have parking - a rare thing in Valparaiso.

Our stay in this fantastic B & B was totally round. The room was clean and silent with good beds and one could have a spectacular view over Valparaiso from the balcony around the apartments. Marisol was helpful in every way and the staff was very friendly. Above all the breakfast was one of the best we got on our half year trip around the world. Great value !
