Wow...can't rave enough. Don't let the quaint outside view of the front intimidate you...it doesn't look like much from the street but inside it's much nicer. Jose Miguel met us at the front door happy to see us and extremely friendly! The place isn't huge and it's not exactly "central"...but it's quiet and a beautiful combination of historic beauty with a modern twist of color, primarily a beautiful red and black and white. VERY clean, very friendly. We actually arrived super early in the day because we arrived via cruise and had to disembark early. We arrived at the hotel at 8:30 in the MORNING, hoping only for some kind of grace simply to leave our 4 suitcases and 2 carry-ons somewhere in the building until the 3:00 PM check in time. Jose Miguel at the reception desk not only spoke perfect English, French, and Spanish with some Portuguese as well, but he also let us check in at 8:30, gave us a room, with key, and helped us carry our 4 heavy suitcases to the room. He insisted it was so worry and at noon they would move our luggage for us from the temp room to our permanent room for the night. Meanwhile we had full use of the "temporary" room. Couldn't believe it. After working for years in hotels I couldn't get over this kind of customer service! I've never worked anywhere that would allow the customer to check in that early without charging another entire night's stay!
Internet is wifi and free. They also have a nice computer in the guest area in case the customer doesn't have a laptop. Of course we didn't have any transformer for our laptop since we are traveling to Brazil and do not require transformers there....so we asked our new friend Jose at the front desk, although not expecting to find one...and naturally he had a full transformer/converter from the 220 to 110 for our laptop to lend us! The TVs in the room are LCD with full HD. Not a huge size (although very adequate for the room size), so very good quality since most TV's that size don't come so well equipped.
There is a little bar/cafe in the hotel also that offers several types of mineral water, beer, wine, and liquors. They have a free breakfast included which is quite nice compared to others we've been to. They actually let us eat breakfast when we got here at 8:30, even though we weren't paid for until later that night! Just off the top of my head I remember freshly made orange juice (like, FROM ORANGES, not bottled stuff!), milk, yogurt (liquid kind common in S. America), scrambled eggs, ham, cheese, a type of sliced cake, sliced bread (white and wheat), I think I saw a toaster...there were two or more types of jam/jelly for bread. Also coffee and hot milk and two types of cereal. Table setup was adorable and very stylish.
There are quite a few comfy chairs to relax inside and an entire deck outside with table/chair setup and patio furniture as well.
We can't get enough of this place and plan to stay again in future travels!!
NOTE: bring money for a taxi since you're NOT going to want to walk up this mountain side. Taxi from the bottom of the hill to top (hotel) was about 6 USD, or 2,900 Pesos. Definitely worth it unless you're into burning thighs! :-) HIGHLY recommended!
