“Lovely peaceful base for Valparaiso”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 January 2012

I arrived on Christmas day and found the hotel very comfortable with lovely outdoor places to sit and read, use the wi-fi and plan my month in Chile. It is in the centre of the open air museum of graffiti art work. It easy to walk into the centre of Valparaiso, catch the metro and take in all of the sites. The staff were really friendly and helpful. It was an ideal base with great breakfasts. Annabel

“Stumbling into Something Special”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 January 2012

My husband and I were travelling in Chile and stumbled into this hotel. It's something special... charming, quirky and a wonderful place to visit and stay. The lobby is airy and artsy in a sophisticated way - lots of glass, wood, metal and angles...and interesting artifacts. The rooms are spacious, with hand-knotted kilim rugs and (in our room, anyway) a spectacular view of the harbor. Breakfast was plentiful and fresh. This isn't a Marriott. It's a place that is part of the city with a staff that is welcoming and there to help. They guided us to churches, restaurants, cultural spots...even a rodeo!

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view.

“Great place to spend new years eve!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 January 2012

We checked in on the 30th of December at 10:30 pm- thankfully before the masses began to arrive for the world famous New Years fireworks. Parked right infront of the hotel on the street with the help of Jorge the owner....very nice guy who was waiting for us at the front door! The decor is very interesting and cool. Staff were very friendly and always helpful...its a family business. Philip (the son) was super helpful with any question we had....ordered pizza in for us on new years day (enjoyed on the roof top patio), shared his cold medication, made us a cheese platter, ordered taxis, delivered cold beer and loaned us his personal computer. It does not get any better than this!!! 10 out of 10.

“A mixture of pros and cons”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 January 2012

This is a strange hotel where we stayed for 2 nights. The public rooms are fine with interesting decor and features. The location isn't bad and is only about 10 minutes walk from Neruda's house "La Sebastiana". There are also two very good restaurants nearby. However, the people running the place (not local Chileans) have few social skills. The owner was there as we arrived and didn't speak to us. The other front of house staff seemed unable to smile or be friendly. We arrived about 7.00p.m and were told we would be in room 4. When we went to room 4 it was not made up so we were put in room 1 which was tiny (we had to squeeze past the bed to get to the bathroom and there was no hanging space for clothes). The following morning we asked to change rooms and were put in room 5 which was a little larger and pleasanter but still no hanging space for clothes. Just before we left we discovered a huge wooden roof terrace (why couldn't the staff have told us about this?). It had a wonderful viewbut we saw broken glass around one of the tables. The breakfast was not a buffet but prepared dishes of chocolate sauce and cakes together with eggs (none of which I wanted for breakfast). I could only eat the toast.
With a better room and friendlier staff, this could have been an interesting and unusual place to stay.

“Great Views, Location and Staff,”

We really enjoyed our stay here and the staff was top notch. The town house rooms were a fascinating design and having two decks (one with a sitting area) really allowed one to take in the great views. The design had some flaws. The bathrooms are on a separate floor from the bedroom and the steep metal stairs were difficult to navigate, especially at night. The metal stairs in the rest of the building created a lot of noise and it was disturbing. If you have an appreciation for design and can handle some noise, this is a place for you. I would stay here again it was a great overall experience.

Room Tip: The first townhouse has the largest decks but you trade the views for proximity to a common stairwel...

Thank you so much for your review. We are so pleased that you enjoyed the great views, location, and the "top notch" staff. We are so happy that you had a great overall experience, and would stay again.

Your comment about the noise from the staircase adjoining the first townhouse is appreciated and well taken. Our guests should expect to enjoy a quiet and restful experience. We are in the process of adding padding and covering for the stairs to make them comfortable to use, and sound proof. Thank you for pointing out this problem, and we will take care of it.
