“A wonderful gem!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 December 2011

This hotel feels far more like a warm B&B. It is decorated tastefully and feels a bit rustic with large wooden doors and staircases. Wonderful location up the hill in a safe neighborhood with many local restaurants around and fairly easy access to the train along the coast. The breakfast was delicious - fresh fruit, pastries and perfect scrambled eggs. There's a deck off of the lobby with a wonderful view of the water and down the hill. Only one English speaking person on staff, but all were friendly and helpful. Would stay here again in a heartbeat!

“Perfect Stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 November 2011

We arrived early after an overnight flight from the US. Our room was ready for us, clean, fabulous linens, great bathroom, pretty view. We were happy to have the a/c as it got rather warm that day- and hubby likes it cool. Walking distance to a lot. Some english spoken- enough for normal "hotel" conversation, but owner told me about Valpo's history and his antiques in a charming mix of english, french and spanish. Breakfast was great with lots of fresh fruit. Couldn't ask for a better experience.

Room Tip: We had a family room. It was beside the breakfast room- but no noise from there.

“Very good, slightly expensive.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 January 2010

Quite positive experience, warm service, a place with soul. My only complaint is that the TV from the next room was too audible in my own room --- that was annoying. I also feel it's a little bit overpriced, but I guess that's the going rate for a nice hotel in Valpo. If it were not for the noise, it would have been a fantastic hotel experience.

“Unbelievable!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 May 2008

This 4 month old FANTASTIC stay is a must if you like comfort and convienience. We were delighted after a night of dissapointment at another close-by hotel to stay at this hidden treasure. Sure when you walk up it doesn't look great, when you enter in it's beautiful wood work, and tall wooden doors, wondeful, helpful staff who are mostly bilingual. The linens are all embroidered and clean, new carpet, satelite TV, Wi-Fi, fantstic bathrooms with optional sunflower shower head. Maybe some of the trim colors don't match up and there's a squeak hear and there in the floor, but it is a peaceful extremely clean hotel.
The only complaint I could ever think of is that it does not have a restauraunt and the water has a tendancy to build up in the bathtub. It includes a full breakfast with fruit, toast, eggs, tea, coffee, and juice. It may not have a powerful view of the bay but many rooms have a great view of the city. It is owned and built by a wondeful older man who is commited to his work as you can tell by every piece of furnature and door in the hotel.
It is a secure place to stay, you have to ring at the speaker box for someone to open the door.
I could have spent weeks in this hotel but sadly it was just one comfortable, peaceful night.
