“Refined Style in Providencia”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 December 2010

We had a nice stay at Hotel Bonaparte! It is in a great location in Providencia- about a 15 minute walk to the subway. The staff was always ready to help us with whatever we needed, but they were a little too determined to ensure we had received the wake-up calls we requested. Also, there was one day we only had a couple of towels and the hair dryer would die after a couple of minutes. Don't plan on swimming laps in the pool- it is really more of a fountain. The computers with Internet access were very helpful. Overall, this hotel is a good value in a great location.

“Robbed By Hotel Staff..Me Robaron!!!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 October 2010

We stayed here at the Bonaparte several times over the course of two years without incident. This review would have been one of my most positive experiences in Chilean hotels, THAT IS until $600.00usd was taken from my room. The group of interchange students I am in charge of never lost more than a few small items, Maybe lost or misplaced since college students may be proned to pack in a hurry, its likely those items were never on the plane from the USA. The staff at the Bonaparte were usually a profesional , attentive staff, superb in many ways which made it more difficult to accept that the money was taken in the first place. The Carabineros (police) arrived quickly to take my statement and were professional, even though they stated that I would never get it back unless someone admitted to stealing it..
The hotel manager on the other hand was not so courteous nor was he remotely helpful, as he tried to convince me that I never had six hundred dollars, and that if I did have $600.00 why was it not hidden or placed in the safe box! He then became more agitated after I insisted someone on his staff took the money, OBVIOUSLY I didnt have the money any longer and its no longer in my room, he again tried placing the blame and responsibility on me. This childish blame the victim tactic is common in Chile and possibly elsewhere in South America. He never brought the two room cleaners to talk to the carabineros nor would he consider they might steal, instead he maintained his diversion and denial. If you feel like gambling and you want a well located, clean hotel with an enormous international breakfast buffet this is for you, just be prepared to pay more than you expected! Needless to say our group will not return.

“Lovely hotel in a beautiful neighborhood”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 March 2010

We booked a night in this hotel because we could pay with our frequent flier miles and what a pleasant surprise! The staff were friendly and helpful, and seemed to quite enjoy practicing their English with us even though my husband is Chilean and fluent in Spanish. The patio and pool are beautiful, the rooms are clean and comfortable, and the generous breakfast buffet had something to please everyone. Plus, Providencia (the neighborhood in Santiago) is very lovely and walkable and there is plenty to do nearby.

“Interesting Stay”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 August 2009

I just got into this reviewing for hotels. I stayed here for about a week with some other Honors college students. We were there for a conference with another university in Santiago.

Positives-

Location- In a great area. It really is local. The hotel is surrounded by a upper class neighborhoods. There are several embassies, Japan and Russia for example, just a few blocks from the hotel. The streets are smaller and the trees are huge and overgrown. If you are a avid runner, like me, it was great to get up and run in the morning. The streets are flat and there are plenty of cars to keep you company. There are parks within a mile of the hotel.

Good Service- The front desk was always helpful and patient. They never bothered us eventhough many of my friends were loud and rude to the other guests.

Food- I was suprised how good the food was. The local professors really liked their food. It was elegantly prepared and served with class. The restaurant is small so be sure to get their for the breakfast. It was always filling but not to many choices.

Hotel itself- it really is a boutique hotel. All of the rooms are different in some sort of way. Some of the rooms are rather large or have a living room, request a room at the end of the hall (they are much larger). The hall ways are narrow and have a inn style feel. The conference rooms are down in the basement. It can get kind of scary walking down the stairs. The elevators were narrow and can only fit like 5 people. There is almost 5 basement floors and they lights are censored so it is dark until the very last minute.

Rooms- Basic. You wont go crazy over it but it is livable. The rooms are just like a Best Western in the States. The A/C worked great. Condesation formed on the windows, just the way I like it!

Negatives-

Pool- small and a joke, but did not come for the pool. It is small small small. I think a dorm room is bigger.

Business center- it is in the middle of the hall way. There are only three computers. Not much of a "center".

Workout room- Do not even bother. The picture is misleading. Run outside. It is a much better experience

Cleanliness- Somtimes this turned into a issue. They did not clean the bathroom a few times. The sheets looked very odd with mixed colors. It is hard to communicate with some of the staff because they speak minimal english, which is not their fault.

Bathroom- Some of the rooms have tiny bathrooms. Other rooms had windows in them, which makes much more sense as to let out the steam and etc. I always give a huge plus for hotels who actually do this because it avoids the usual sauna bathroom effect. Sometimes the hot water was random or non-existent. Some of the girls went haywire over it.

Location- at least a 15-20 walk to the nearest subway station. Not the fault of the hotel. All of Santiago is like this.

Overall- Average place. If you in the area, it is a good local hotel. If you want to be closer to sites, I would look elsewhere. To get to the sites, it is at least a 20 min ride in a car or longer on the train (walking time). If you get a good deal, take it.

“Nice hotel in good location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 June 2009

We stayed here for a couple of nights. Really liked the location in a quiet affluent mainly residential area. Shops and restaurants were within a 10-15 minutes walk. The room was spacious, but could probably benefit from a little upgrading. The reception area was nice and the staff quite helpful. There were computers with free internet access. The pool area was ok and we enjoyed a nice meal in by the pool side. I would recommend the hotel, though not for the travelling looking for stylish luxury.
