I spent time a few months back in Santiago, Chile. The hotel was very nice and comfortable. It is an older property, but it is located walking distance to many shops and restaurants. The staff was very kind and friendly. I do not speak any Spanish, and most people in Santiago do NOT speak English..so communication was difficult. I did have an interpreter with me for most of the trip.

I stay here 4 nights and exceeded my expectations. If you are attending a conference in Intercontinental or W this is a very good option, less than 5 minutes away from these hotels. The internet works well even if you need to ask for wifi access. Breakfast look like airline company but is what you expect when you pay around 100 usd/night. My room had a king size bedroom plus a living room with kitchnette, much better than promise.

We first used the Santa Magdalena in 2006 and liked it a lot. Hence on our recent trip it was an obvious choice again. Prices in Santiago have gone up a lot in that time, and this is an expensive area. However as other reviewers have noted, it's easy to get to, handy for supermarkets and restaurants and safe. The management have a number of apartments on different floors. We stayed in two on this trip; eleventh and seventh floors both with two bathrooms and both were quads. Both were comfortable, clean and visited daily by maid service. Towels were provided and were good quality. Showers and baths were good; plenty of hot water, but you need to be slim to fit through the shower screen in the smaller bathroom! One apartment was in slightly better shape than the other; there were a few cracked tiles in one bathroom and a bit of money should be spent in redecorating and refreshing. The other was perfect, and overall the apartments are decent value. Street noise was not too bad.. you're quite high up. The roof top pool was nice, but COLD!

As in 2006 we found the office staff to be very friendly, helpful and efficient, with at least two staff speaking excellent English. The office was open very long hours, and they have a computer for guest use if you have no laptop of your own.

Nearby good restaurants: Elkika near Tobalaba metro (other side of Av Providencia) and Liguria (between Providencia and 11 de Septiembre).

Located in an upscale business district with metro nearby, the apartments were clean and nicely furnished. Washing machine is a great convenience to have on a trip. Sole drawback was ac only in living room but place is fairly cool in summer anyway and clothes dry almost immediately. Really a pleasant place.
