It was a rush preparation that left me very few choices besides One Florence Close. And there are pros and cons of this little hut in Kovan, far away from Central Singapore, and here they are:
PROS
- Friendly staff
- Walking distance to MRT Station, surrounded by local restaurants that are good and economic choices. There is a traditional bread cafe called JIE, at which we had breakfasts every morning during our stay. It's cheap, delicious and very local.
- Well-equipped for basic needs: clean beds, good internet (during my stay I had no problem with wi-fi), there are TVs in the rooms, not that you want to watch though. There are many cutlery, kitchenware, coffee and tea for guests.
- There is a desktop here for use, with many maps and tourist information available.
- There is a 'freebies corner' here, with books, magazines and other stuff free to take away. Probably leftovers by previous guests.
CONS
- Very far away from Central Singapore. It's MRT-connected, but MRT is very expensive.
- By "Shared bathroom" it means sharing three shower cabinets and two toilets with guests in the other 11 rooms. They look clean but it's really not comfortable to use something so "public".
- Basins are in the common area, so you have to brush your teeth in the public.
- Rooms are terribly small! I stayed in the first room right after the gate, and it's barely spacious enough for a double-deck bed, a wardrobe and a desk. I passed by other rooms and reckon they are even smaller, barely enough for a double mattress!
To conclude, I would say there are a lot more choices out there, and there is no point to pick this one when 1- it requires lots of transportation, 2- it's not particularly comfortable!
Room Tip: The first room, opposite to reception.
