“Basic And Simple”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 February 2011

Thought i'm local here, i have problem looking for this hostel. Do ask around if you are unsure.

The hostel is basic and simple, for SGD20 it's pretty alright, i stayed in a mixed female dormitory with air-con & fan, bed was clean, satisfied .. Toilet is shared among the rest of the backpacker in the hostel.

Unfortunately there's only 1 computer available, i doubt there's wifi as i can't detect from my laptop. There's a bar just below the hostel and food court, mcdonald is just a few walking distance away. The staff is friendly and you can ask for direction.

“OK and basic but good location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 November 2010

We stayed recently and its ok. The location is great and free wi fi but the toilets and showes are basic . The place is quite dark and reasonably clean but for the money not to bad. We stayed out most of the day and only slept here so not the end of the world.

“Organisation issues...”

We booked via internet a double private bed room, which was confirmed. I payed the account. I called later because my flight was delayed and they ensure me the room was still available. We got there and when they opened the door to the room, the previous guest was still there. They then put us in a dorm, which was barely ok. We had to insist to get some money back. When the real boss (was he) showed up, the explanation was that they have no way to coordinate internet booking and their day by day booking (scribbling in a book). So my guess is that it happens everytime.
Other than that, for their defense, they are particularly friendly... but disorganised.

“I'll dfinitely be back for more fernloft experience!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 May 2010

Fernloft east coast is the best! Located in the suburbs, near the east coast beach and plenty good food. Just below the hostel is a popular restaurant/night spot, where guests get discounts. It's quiet, safe, & laidback. Easy to get a cab. Right in front of the hostel, there's a bus stop that makes it ez to get to downtown/anywhere (they provide a list of destinations and the correponding bus no.).. The place is well maintained & clean, guests keep to themselves, & staffs are very hospitable and helpful (Jeff is the best!) ..If you are looking for a quiet r&r away from the hustle and bustle of the city but still have the option to go around, then this is a good hostel to consider.

I stayed there for 2nights then took its free interhostel transfer to the chinatown location. The location is unbelievable! It's just across from Maxwell Food Center & within walking distance to Boat Quay (I even walked all the way to Orchard).. Aini, the manager, is key in making a home away from home for all of us! With her guidance, the place is kept clean & all guests felt welcome and safe. I wish all downtown hostels have 1 "Aini"

“Fernloft website is misleading.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 April 2009

We traveled from the airport to Fernloft East Coast thinking that what the website said was true - clean, comfortable. BUT to our dismay, the place was dark, dingy and intolerable. The rooms are claustrophobic and the bathroom is located at the far end of the narrow corridor. This hostel is an insult to tourists. Check it out to prove that this comment is true.
