We traveled from the airport to Fernloft East Coast thinking that what the website said was true - clean, comfortable. BUT to our dismay, the place was dark, dingy and intolerable. The rooms are claustrophobic and the bathroom is located at the far end of the narrow corridor. This hostel is an insult to tourists. Check it out to prove that this comment is true.

Fern Loft Backpackers was an ok, basic hostel. The hostel offers a free breakfast which consists of toast, some cereal and tea or coffee. The hostel is located above a bar which can sometimes be noisy, especially late at night if you are wanting sleep.

The hostel offers vouchers for the bar downstairs with money off drinks and food. The food was reasonable - typical pub food. There was also a supermarket near by and a McDonalds. The hostel does not have a main kitchen with any cooking facilities, however this did not seem to affect our stay.

The toilet and shower facilites were average for an asian hostel, however compared to hostels in Australia and the Western World the facilites were less than desireable.

Our room was used as the main corridor to another room, in which locals seemed to live. They returned from work around 2/3am every morning which woke us.

Although, it appears that most of my comments are negative, we did enjoy our stay in Sinagpore and made some good new friends at Fern Loft. We paid £5.99 per night and were sharing in a room of 8 people. I would not stay here for longer than 2 days.

Great place. Well located, convenient to airport. Typical small hostel. Very clean. Be prepared to share bathroom and shower. Amazing value. I am returning there soon and will stay again. Also recommend it to friends. (Bring earplugs as the bar below can be a bit noisy until 2 am.- otherwise quiet location in a charming area)

The staff at Fern Lodge were very friendly and were happy to assist you with local information/ booking trips etc. The room we booked was very cosy and clean. The hostel is only small (1 x 10 bed dorm and 3 doubles) which I lked. On a negative side there is only 1 shower room and 1 toilet, which we didn't find a problem, but I can imagine if the hostel is full could be a pain in a morning. The price included breakfast (toast and jam/ peanut butter).

The location isn't great as you have to get buses everywhere, but as we were out for each entire day this wasn't too much hassle as the hostel provided info on what buses to get where and when.
