My partner and I stayed two nights at the New 7th Storey Hotel on the way home from Europe in June 2008 to break the journey. I have spent several months in Singapore and have stayed at many hotels ranging from luxurious to dilapidated. However, these two nights were indeed a treat and would constitute the best experience I have had of Singapore hotels.

I was very disappointed to read previous reviews that the hotel was to be demolished. Sadly, it appears that is the case as this hotel has been, according to the hotel's website, "reacquired by the Singaporean Government" and has ceased trading. It seems therefore apparent that this gem will be demolished (if it hasn't already been) and further dilute Singapore's concentration of few remaining architectural marvels.

With hindsight I suppose this was inevitable given this iconic old building stood proudly, albeit forlornly, on a small park adjacent to the Bugis Junction and the MRT. A developers dream to be sure, but the old world charm and "step back in time" experience is becoming harder to find in this modern city and Singapore will be poorer for the demise of this wonderful hotel.

we stayed in NSS hotel first week of sept. 2008. Together with my hubby and 2 kids (12 & 10 yrs old) . Accomodation in Singapore is quite expensive so this place is really a goldmine!!
For the minimal amount we paid it was worth it. We got a room with common bath, (at first i was hesitant but since we are on a budget trip...go!) we never had a problem with it , bathrooms are clean all the time, no line, no waiting. Rooms are simple but comfortable.(we asked for extra bed for our older child for also a minimal fee).Our room (2nd floor) has a wash area/sink inside, toothbrush & toothpaste and towels are provided. AIrcon & TV okay. Location perfect, near MRT, Mcdonalds (around the corner), and theres a chinese restaurant beside the hotel. Helpful staff.

We booked this hotel for our last night in Singapore. We had flown in on Air Asia from K.L. and wanted something close to the MRT. I believe it is really a backpackers hotel, but we had a Deluxe Room. It was clean and very spacious. It had a TV, small refrigerator and tea making facility in the room, plus nice large bathroom. It is an old hotel, with a neat elevator that is still operated by a nice gentleman. It is 1 block from the Bugis MRT, and right across the street from Bugis Junction Mall. There was an internet station on 2 different floors, outside patios, and a common kitchen area. Our room was 117 SGD.
