Stayed here for 5 days out of a month's stay in Singapore. Only through today's revisit at TripAdvisor learned about the demolition of this gem. What a sad reflection of Singapore's tough exterior -- unfortunately the powers that be couldn't see the charm of the hotel's patina, its old world elevator (who knows who could've ridden it!), its once heralded views (you could still see a lot from there!)...
This review is a year too late, as I stayed there April 08. The rooms were military clean (military cots, white linens with military folds, even military style lockers and all) and adequate for its price as I remember (since they gave you soap, a toothbrush and towels too). I was shocked and pleasantly surprised with the price I paid I got a clean room and a clean common bathroom (Thank God the other travelers on the floor were decent in using it too). Nice balcony to chill at, read in the afternoons or stretch in the mornings. Lucky enough to meet good company there from Norway (Hi Tom, wherever you are!) and some other country, I forgot hehe. Just had to deal with being with strangers since I traveled alone (and often came home very late at night or early morning -- I guess I also tested my roommates' patience hehe, but I tried my hardest to not be a fuss)
So sad to learn the 7th Storey had to go, with only very good memories to remain.
(Wait, were there even efforts to save the structure? Only now that I rear my angry head hehe)
