Indeed they are clean, if you are average and really looking forward to have a good sleep, this hotel is really good, although in red light district, no one will bother you, safe and not far from metro station

Price is also good, stayed for 6days

Taking a shower in this hotel was a nightmare. First you need to realize that you have to turn on the hot water heater. Then you get blasted with scalding water. Then the hot water runs out and you are faced with a pulsing lo/hi stream that floods the bathroom. Finally, you realize that you only have two towels, and one needs to be wasted on drying the toilet seat and floor. Construction is cheap in Singapore, add some stalls and a pressure regulator for gossakes!

Also, the chambermaids are unreliable and only managed to clean my room the first night on their own accord. I've never experienced a dirty room @ 5:30 pm, and this is very inconvenient when you are jet-lagged and want to sleep but now they want to get in and clean.

In the morning, the pipes and thin walls will get you awake more effective than the non-existent wake up call I requested.

The bed is nice and firm but has unfitted sheets which are constantly coming undone and threatening to have you sleep on cold vinyl. The A/C works great. The front desk is actually quite professional considering the hotel.

The hotel's location is great during the week. Two MRT stations, cheap beer, good food, and a wide range of locals are nearby. On the weekend, Geylang bursts with seedy men and prostitutes scrambling away from police raids.

I hear Hotel 81 has shower curtains so I'll try that next time I visit Singapore on a tight budget.

I actually took this trip in the summer of 2010.

first of all, i had no idea that the hotel i chose was right in the middle of the red light district. Every morning until at night my friends and i were always out seeing all the sites and museums. We always had a fanastic time eating out and enjoying the city. We enjoyed most of the tourist sites so we were hardly at our hotel room anyway except to shower sleep and rest. The hotel was quite nice and the staff were nice enough to help find a quick tour of singapore. Now that was the good news.

Well, depending on your preferences, if you just need a place to sleep with adequate services this is the place for you. If anyone is a fan of the red light district, you would understand what happens at night. Only at night the whole geylang area is filled with mostly men. My friend and I couldn't understand why until we left the hotel at night with our taxi driver explaining the reasoning.

our hotel room was fine. We didnt look too closely too anything but it was clean enough for us. Plenty of hot and working water. The facilties were well maintained under low light and a noisy AC/heater. All the windows have a thin paint of coat so you could not see from the outside. The tv, phone and internet seems to work just fine in our room. For us, everything was just alright. We had no actual problems and our belongings were intact. This place has its basic essentials plus complimentary water/tea.

Thankfully, outside the hotel there are plenty of places to eat. Various inexpensive Chinese cuisines are available. Mostly cash is accepted and very few will take credit cards because of these small independent shops. You can even get south asian food for a cheap price as well. You will not starve at all.
