Having just stayed two nights in a suite in the Nirwana Beach Hotel in Bintan, Indonesia, our initial reaction to our deluxe triple room in the Perak Hotel was not very positive. The room was cramped with a double, a single and a baby cot. We stayed in room 302 which is the biggest room they have. My husband had to do some work an a presentation he was doing the next day and was worried that the room would not be conducive to this with two adults, one child and a baby all cooped up together, the only alternative would be that we would all have to go out of the day and leave him alone to get on with it. However, the staff were extremely helpful and suggested that he worked downstairs in their lobby area after breakfast had been packed away. They made sure he could work undisturbed on his laptop and he had no problems with the WiFi connection in the lobby although we did have connection problems in our room.
You won't get a huge buffet breakfast with 'live cooking stations' and a selection of food from every corner of the globe like you do in higher grade hotel but you will get an adequate selection of bread, pandan cakes, cereal, eggs, noodles, beans, cheese, that kind of thing. I suggested that they varied the selection a bit though for people staying for more than a couple of nights need a bit of variety.
The real bonus is the location. A plus point if you love Indian food, you can dine on delicious curries until the early hours of the morning. If you like to wash it down with a pint of 2 of cask ale, The Prince of Wales pub does some great beers off the pump. A real bonus for curry loving, ale loving Brits like us.
Yes, the staff on the desk did seem a bit concerned that we weren't paying up front and I'm not used to doing this when checking into a hotel, but they certainly weren't rude of standoffish to us.
