“A Unique Experience in Singapore”

When returning from a holiday in Vietnam we organised a four day stay in Singapore. We wanted to experience a more authentic Singapore than Orchard Road so we booked into the Perak Hotel in Little India. This hotel was just what we wanted, it was close to two "people mover" rail stations, Bugis and Little India, it was within walking distance of Sim Lim Tower for our computer/camera needs and was surrounded by lots of little eateries and restaurants. At night the whole area "buzzed" with people, food, colour and shops. We loved it. The price included breakfast which we could eat outside on the little tables in the cooler morning temperatues or inside. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the rooms were spotlessly clean and met our needs perfectly. Singapore is easy to get around and with the nearness of the railstations, Orchard Road and other parts of Singapore are only a short railride away. Little India is one part of Singapore that is not to be missed for its vibrancy and culture, a little glimpse of Singapore's historic past. Nearby are mosques, temples and old shophouses, a wonderful mix of old world ambiance.

“PERAK HOTEL - TICKS IN EVERY BOX + + +”

We have just spent 6 nights at the Perak moving on to Hanoi today. I can recommend this boutique hotel in every way. Converted traditional shophouses, it is low rise and has historical ambience. It makes a refreshing change from all the rather soul-less high rise, modern hotels which are everywhere at up there prices. This hotel is so clean - at check in, on daily room services and all public areas. The staff are polite, helpful and professional in every way. Rooms are nicely set up with showers that work well. Flat screen tv. The location is brilliant - in the heart of Little India, and within easy walking distance of Bugis Shopping, Orchard Road, Arab Quarter, and for the energetic, Fort Canning. I dont know why people complain about the clubs nearby, had no problem with that at all. Also the mosque with regular calls to prayer a street away - well if you go to areas of different cultures/religions, then this is part of the experience and should not be counted as a negative. Thanks to Perak for a wonderful week in Singapore, will definitely be returning to this hotel on next visit to the city.

Room Tip: Had 308, very good.

“Wonderful hotel! Shame about the club next door”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 January 2012

The guy who works here had won me over within 2 minutes of arriving. He was warm, helpful and funny. The rooms are comfortable, with wooden floors and powerful AC. The location is perfect, right in the middle of Little India - cheap curry and friendly faces. The only downside to this hotel is the nightclub next door. I was kept awake until 2am every night but this may have been due to the fact it was Chinese New Year and SIngapore was in full celebration!
Overall, I'm very happy I chose this hotel and would recommend it. But maybe ask for a room at the opposite end of the corridor, away from the club.

Room Tip: Choose a room away from the club!

“A Little Bit of everything”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 January 2012

It was the first time our family went out of the country, so I was really looking forward to a cheap yet convenient place for us to stay, at least for the first two nights. We stayed at the Sentosa Festive Hotel on the last day. I was choosing between Perak Hotel and the chic Saff Hotel. But since Perak offered a room with three beds, it was a pretty easy option.

Perak is situated in Little India. Though the place itself stinks, you'd see that it all adds up to the unique experience in Singapore. The area outside is generally dirty, with the cheap restaurants, and the marketplace a few steps away. The hotel room was clean, but very small. It felt as if three beds were forced inside a room for one. The bathroom was small too. It has a shower, right beside the toilet bowl, and everything else.

Staff were not unfriendly, but they were rather quiet and they talk less. I don't see how this could add to the minus points, but definitely not a plus. They respond to your questions in sentences four words or less. Ahahah!

There was a horse race on one of the nearby restaurants and people from Little India were cheering all night long. That was a bummer.

Breakfast buffet was okay. and their dining area was really cute. It was small too, and easily creates a homey-feel for breakfast goers. It sets a mood that there will be a great day ahead of you.

Overall, I won't recommend the experience for family trips. There is a long walk from the hotel going to the train station, and it's difficult to let your parents walk that distance. You're better off staying at Resorts World Sentosa for a few extra bucks. But I'd definitely go back here but this time with friends.

“Great stay in Little India”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 January 2012

My family and I had a 1 night stopover in SIN on our trip to the UK, after choosing the Perak Hotel from the reviews on TA, I must say all those positive reviews came through.
This was a good place to stay, friendly and helpful staff and clean linen.
My wife and 2 daughters were pleasently surprised at our loft conversion room, it had so much space.

Room Tip: For a family of 4 ask for the loft
