I travel alone a lot for work and wanted an apartment in Singapore as I am staying for eleven nights. I want independence and flexibility, and the Somerset Orchard offers these and more. It's close to Somerset MRT, about a 5-7 minute walk, and there's a supermarket even closer-by that allowed me to fill my huge, sparkling-clean fridge and freezer with goodies - you don't get that in from a hotel mini-bar. The washing machine is a huge bonus too - no more hotel laundry (which personally I hate, I know there are many who would argue). I haven't needed to cook as there are so many restaurants around here - Cuppage Plaza is great and 3 mins walk away.

The pool is fabulous, a little oasis in the middle of a steaming city. The gym was also excellent and well equipped. Breakfast was fine - a choice of cereal, fruit, toast, a few hot items, juice, coffee etc. It's what you'd eat at home, rather than eating a ton of food because it's there, which is what usually happens in hotels at breakfast! The staff couldn't have been friendlier and more helpful.

There's a lot of negative reviews about this place - well my experience has been excellent. It was spotlessly clean, spacious and comfortable. Yes it's a bit dated, but that's fashion for you - things change. I've loved my stay here.

Staying here for 1 month as part of relocation to Singapore with work. Disappointed in many aspects of the place and likely to not to stay the full month.

Location is superb. Staying in one bedroom executive apartment. Arrived last night with a lot of luggage, none of the porters helped me from the taxi. Check in at level 6. Entrance to the apartments is on a side street and unimpressive. When you get to level 6, you don't get a 4 star impression with a concrete open air quad. I'm on the top floor and have a front facing apartment to orchard road, spectacular light show at night from the shopping centre across the road - might annoy some people. Pictures on the website are incredibly misleading, particulary the bedroom! Generally soulless apartment much in need of updating - very tired and dated. Had to go and buy air fresheners, flowers and fruit to bring some life to the place. Air conditioning not great, particularly in the bedroom - didn't sleep at all well, if not at all last night. Only two pillows on a king bed. Bedroom also has a slightly sour smell to it. Bathroom dark and dingy. Hot water in the shower doesn't last for long. Washing machine didn't work but they got it fixed this morning. No running hot water from the kitchen tap and there never will be as it's not connected. Linen of generally poor quality. Bed creaks dreadfully every time you turn on it. No teaspoons in the provided cutlery - went out and bought some. Hob isn't that clean. Paying SGD 7000 for th month which is around SGD 250 a night - you'd get a good hotel room elsewhere in Singapore for that rate. There were issues with the booking of the apartment in the outset, confirmed the booking, then said no apartments available, had to kick up a fuss and we got this apartment as a one off discretionary upgrade... Have seen the odd tiny ant in the bathroom this morning, but that's normal for Asia and older style property, but having read the other reviews, not sure about sitting on the sofa and my head feels a bit itchy now... Think Somerset Orchard needs to address various issues here head on and promptly. Think there's enough mileage in numerous complaints here to indicate there is a problem and likely to check out early and pursue a refund. Somerset Orchard - basic customer service - take note of what's going on and deal with it accordingly otherwise reputation, customers and profit are going to disappear fast.

Amazing apartments with loads of facilities, which you can use. Very economical in city like singapore, if you are going on a long trip. Each apartmetn is fully equipped with kitchen & other amenities, which you can utilise , to save up on meals cost. The room service then clears ur used utensils once per day, so thats the best part.

We selected Somerset apartments due to the reputation of the Ascott group and Somerset brand. We were extremely disappointed.

2 bedroom apartment.

P1. Airconditioning in one room did not function for 2 out of 7 nights. We were offered alternative apartment when it malfunctioned 2nd time. The story in that apartment was not much better. Airconditioner barely worked.
A1. The Manager Ms. Schimdt excuse, we are aware of airconditioning problems. Our property has not been renovated we are waiting for renovation (which can be years). That is why our prices our lower. I pointed out to her that at SGD 437+ is not cheap when hotels like Stamford were offering suites at SGD 335++ or Grand Pacific at SGD 230 all inclusive. She did not have a response.

P2. There were ants crawling all over the place. Fine they are located in tropical region but how come we don't see ants in other properties or hotels.
A2. We will take care of the problem.

P3. Towels edges were frazzled. Considering they change the towels everyday it says one heck of a lot for the quality of towels they had.
A3. Ms. Schimdt answers we are waiting for fresh stock to arrive.

P4. Some insects on the sofa that bit all of us - making the sofa unusable. On the 5th day I developed a rash on my forearm and back of my hand. 10 days of medication and ointments have reduced. Doctors feel it will take another 10 days for everything to disappear.
A4. We will change the sofa for you - We are so sorry.

For the price and the hassles there are far better 4* properties in Singapore than this one. What's the point in staff being apologetic and helpful after the event when they should ensure that the event does not happen in the first place.
