I stayed at 1929 in early December 2011 and i really enjoyed it. The location of it is definitelly one of the selling points. It is actually in the quite part of Chinatown next to excellent eateries and about 20-25 min walk from the river. The rooms are very clean and even though very small, they are well designed and functioning. What surprised me was the settle bohemian feeling this place has which i was not expenting to find in a city like Singapore. Somehow the drawbags of this place work for its benefit, meaning that the small size of the rooms adds up to the character this place has. Staff is also one the plus of this establishment. Very helpful, well natured and proactive. I think it's a very good choice in that price range.

criticism is that the hallways are un-carpeted so you hear everything outside
your room ie late night returners and early morning flight people dragging
there belongs, footfalls. I am not too picky and I bring earplugs while traveling
but if you are sound sensitive I would probably choose somewhere else.

Small rooms, but u feel good staying in alone... the bathrooms are full glass doors and somewhere u feel the style and the class (being in a small one)

Simple & Sober Singaporean Staff...!

This hotel in on the Keong Saik Road, which was earlier called the China Town; famous old red street area in Singapore. Now also taxi drivers know China town than keong saik :-)

Visiting Singpaore alone; grab this hotel.. its nearby to most of the area.

The room is small, you will need to push your suitcase under the bed to give you more space. The shower is in the same frosted-glass enclosure as the toilet so things get wet. There is a sink outside the cubicle. It can get a little noisy outside due to a nightclub (it was a Friday night) but nothing some earplugs won't solve.

What you will get that makes Hotel 1929 worthwhile is character, good service, and an excellent location. Close to the MRT, a short walk to Chinatown (2mins) and all that Food Street has to offer. The exterior of the hotel is beautiful and the black & white photos lining the halls are very interesting.

Complimentary water & softdrinks are provided in a small fridge as well as Ipod port, wifi & TV.

Breakfast was included, and was ok. We only stayed one night, so the small room wasn't an issue but for a long stay it may not be ideal, but it's great if you want to be near Chinatown and don't need a spacious room to lounge around in.
