“Great hotel with delicious breakfast”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2012

The hotel was beautiful and really made my Singapore experience even better. Breakfast was included in the package I went for and it was definitely worth my money! The was a wide range of breakfast items in the buffet to cater for all tastes and everything was delicious! The rooms were spacious and clean and the view from our room was beautiful at night. Would stay there again.

“Great staff make a great hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2012 via mobile

Beautiful location despite not being close to the MRT. The walk along the river after crossing the a bridge to Clarke key is worth the experience. There are so many places to eat and drink. The staff at the hotel are very efficient and extremely helpful. I will be back.

“Nothing Special, but nothing to grumble about”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

Stayed at the Grand Copthorne in early February, for two nights on a business trip. The location is good (though Singapore is pretty easy to get around anywhere) - restaurants and bars at Robertson and Clarke Quays are very close.

The lobby is OK - nothing special - check in was reasonably efficient, very informative (detailed instructions on my complimentary internet) but done without a smile. The lobby was full of tour groups, so perhaps that explained why the reception staff were a little dour!

The rooms are plain but effective - the bathroom small (no bath for me) but the bed comfortable, internet worked, there was a desk etc. Basically all that is required - no more, no less.

My food experience was limited to room service (average) and the breakfast buffet (reasonably good). My first coffee was cold, and there was no-one on duty at the egg station when I arrived; but all in all an OK experience.

All in all there is nothing bad to say, but nothing that the place really excels in either. I'd struggle to recommend the place but I'd probably stay again. If you can get a good deal, then you won't go wrong.

“Meets all basic expectations for a business traveller”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2012

+ Room is large but a bit dated.
+ Wi-fi connectivity is good but the rate was on the high side. Surprised that it was not for free.
+ Plenty of taxis outside the hotel hence no problem with transportation.
+ Pool is small considering the size of the property.
+ Concierge was very helpful with printing facility.

In summary : If you are combining holiday with work on the side, this is a decent alternative to 5 star business class hotel.

“Definitely not worth it”

I had huge expectations for this hotel as two different parties had recommended it. One of them had stayed in a club room, the other in Superior room. But I was disappointed. We had a Superior room that was ok, but the bathroom was very much out-dated. And not properly cleaned - there was a hair on the side of the shower and the lamps had dust on them that dated back from the 1990's probably! Also, our tv did not work as the transmitter was missing and we had to ask it to be mended. I had let the hotel know in advance that we were on our honeymoon, but they had not arranged anything special in the room - not even a bar of chocolate or a bowl of flowers..

A minus point comes also from the fact that in front of the hotel there are only the "luxury taxis" in a queue, and you end up paying a lot more driving them than taking a normal cab although there is nothing special about them taxis...! The location of the hotel is not too great, it is a 20-minute walk from the closest metro station. If you wish to stay in a Millenniun hotel, I would highly recommend the sister hotel Studio M which has a better location, much nicer rooms and a much nicer pool area. The pool area of Grand Copthorne is quite small, and what is worse is that there are two fountains by the pool, and the wind blows the water from the fountains to the sun chairs, so there are very few seats that you can actually sit on and sunbathe on if you do not want to get soaking wet!

And what comes to sleep quality: the beds are lovely, very comfy. But the sound proofing is not too good, you can hear every noise in the corridoor! We woke up to children screaming every morning when they went for and came back from breakfast.

What is good: we stayed on the 15th floor and the view from there is pretty nice.

Room Tip: as high up as possible so you do not hear traffic and get a beautiful view.
