“Thank god I found Ysobelle's”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 May 2009

I came to Boracay and stayed for two nights at the Frendz Resort before I couldn't bear it anymore and started searching around for new accomodations. Ysobelle's was WONDERFUL. I am a 26 year old female traveling alone, and since I was a walk-in who wanted to book five nights, I was able to negotiate the cost down to about US$30 per night for their smallest room (which was still a large size for one person). No one told me that breakfast was included in the price, or that they had their own beach chairs out on the beach, but it was my own fault for not reading the leaflet they gave me, which made those points very clear. Plus, they'd already given me a huge discount.

Everyone was really nice and I felt safe here even though I was traveling alone. I was given a key to my room and a key to the front door, which was locked after 9pm. It was really nice that there are only three rooms, so it was very quiet. Another plus is that there's a cafe between the Ysobelle's and the beachfront, so that it takes less than 30 seconds to get to the strip of restaurants, but it's still set back enough so that partyers won't disturb you at night. The manager, Kim, and his wife Neng both lived next door, so they were easily reachable. There was a bit of construction going on across the alley (not the same construction that the reviewer below mentioned), but all I did was turn on the AC and put in earplugs, and I couldn't hear a thing when they started work in the morning. They have cable TV (albeit a small TV, but who goes to Boracay to stay indoors?), and hot and cold water. You just have to let the water run a while before it gets hot.

Someone made up my room every morning and they knew that one of the main reasons that I had left Frendz Resort was because of the mosquitoes, so someone came into my room every evening as well to spray some lemon scent as an extra precaution. I didn't ask for it, and maybe it's standard for them to do so, but I definitely appreciated the gesture.

No question about it - if I'm ever in Boracay again, I'll be staying at Ysobelle's

“Great resort - shame about the view....”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 June 2008

We spent 7 days in Boracay at the Ysobelle and I'm sure that normally it's a great place to stay. However, the owner, who I spoke to on numerous occasions before booking, failed to inform us that the hotel's restaurant/cafe which occupies the space between the rooms and the beach is currently being rebuilt. The potential view from the rooms is now completely ruined by a three storey building site - To make matters worse, the builders insist on starting their hammering and drilling at 7am and, as the new build is being attached to the old they are hammering into the actual wall of your room. The builders were working literally inches from our (now useless) balcony and one day they even used our balcony wall to sit on during their break!
We mentioned the problem to the staff who, despite being very helpful, were unable to persuade the workers to be more considerate. At the end of our stay I spoke to the owner by phone (he wasn't living in the resort) and, after a brief argument, he reluctantly reduced the bill by around 20% but by then the damage was done.
On the plus side the room itself was great and the staff were very helpful. The location is ideal being in Boat station 1 area - well away from the noisy bars/clubs near Station 2 but still with plenty of good bars and restaurants to choose from - Cafe Del Mar was particularly good for a sunset drink or two - and the beach was beautiful - white sand and crystal clear water.
All in all a potentially great location to stay but ruined by the building work which should have been brought to our attention before we booked.

“Ysobelle is Beautiful!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 September 2007

We had only a very short time to see Boracay - stayed one night in the beautiful Ysobelle suite. It was enough to see that I definately want to go back - and will definately stay here!

The hosts were fantastic, we were met at the airport in Caticlan and our trip to the hotel (a mix of different travel methods) was very smooth thanks to the Hotel Coordinator.

It is only steps away from the beach and some very good restaurants.

“"O my god!!"”

We were able to spend 5 beautiful days in Ysobell Boracay. The room (Ysobelle Suite) was even better than the pictures posted on the net. It's more than just amazing to be able to wake up to the sound of the ocean and then open the sliding doors to have the view RIGHT there embracing your awakening.
Hats off to Glenda and Eric who made our stay absolutely lovely. Eric was able to hook us up with horse-back ridings and be the capitan of our very own sail boat. He even took us to the local fish market which he picked out fresh fish and shrimps where then the local restuarants can cook for us.
The room was clean and beautifully decorated. The bathroom is a huge plus because you can see the blue sky (try not to get sunburned) or the evening stars when you're showering. We received daily bed turn-downs with fresh flowers and chocolates each night after we come back from dinner. The bed is made as soon as you leave the room whether it's after you wake up in the morning or even after you take your afternoon nap. Once you come back to the room, it's spotless clean. There was a tv and a dvd player in the room, but honestly, we didn't watch much tv. We spend the mornings on the beach, having fresh made pineapple juice delivered right to your spot, getting massages w/ manicures and pedicures everday, and then to finish the day with some skid boarding (ok, i wasn't too great in). We had our first dinner on the beach in front of Cafe Del Mar, and the rest of the evenings at Red Coconuts. Our breakfast was conveintly located just around the corner of our alley (Cafe Briez) which they served outstanding crepes.
The people are extremely friendly, althought "yes" there are vendors along the beach trying to sell you stuff or asking if you want to do go parasailing, but they're not aggressive. Just kindly smile and say "no thank you" then they won't bother you much.
It rained a bit just about every night seeing it's raining season now, but every morning....it's bright and beautiful.
I don't have to say much about the beach because you must see it to believe it. It really DOES look like the pictures you see on the web.
I definitely recommend Ysobelle to anyone who goes to Boracay.

“Great boutique hotel with personalized service and excellent location”

We had a great expererience staying at Ysobelle Boracay from for 5-7 nights during May 2007. This little boutique hotel (only 3 rooms) was what I had expected -- near beach-front without the exorbitant prices, comfortable yet with character, and best of all -- very very friendly staff!

The only downside was the small brown-tage and the occasional power outages, and the slightly low water pressure.. other than that, if you are traveler who are into unique hotels at a reasonable price -- this is a gem to find!

  • Liked — Charming personalized rooms in a central location with value for money prices!
  • Disliked — No internet connection
