I stumbled across this hotel on this site. Judging from the reviews that I've read about it, it seemed like a really nice place to stay in. The pictures of and from the hotel were breath-taking. Being my first trip out of the city with my friends, I hoped that everything would turn out according to plan. So we booked for a 3D/2N stay with round trip transfers from Caticlan Airport to the hotel.

Transfer from airport to resort:
Boy was I impressed! Upon landing at Caticlan Airport, we were immediately approached by the transfer staff hired by the hotel. Everything was flawless! I even thought that I was dreaming since we were fetched from the airport, guided to the jetty port, rode on a boat and fetched by a hotel van in under 30 mins! Same for the trip back to the airport. Just give them the details of your flight and they'll fix your transfers for you. This is for a fee of course... Definitely worth it though!

First impressions:
Upon arriving at the hotel, I found that there was a back entrance for the hotel. It was actually the white sand beach in front and the "main road" at the back. Very convenient if you feel lazy and just want to ride a tricycle instead of walking towards the much livelier part of the island. On top of that, it was right on the beach and at station 1, which by the way is the more quiet part of the beach. Perfect for an island getaway... The rooms were clean and the beach... fantastic!

Room:
The room was just the right size and odorless. It had two outlets, a mini refrigerator, a closet, cable TV, a dresser, a hair dryer and a couple of chairs. Mattress was just right with clean white sheets. I am very particular with the sheets and I immediately checked if the sheets had some powdery residue from the laundry soap. Fortunately none of that for this hotel! The room was well-lit, air-conditioned and the comfort room was quite clean. Shampoo, soap and cold/hot water were also readily available. The heating system was eco-friendly (powered by solar panels). The door also had double locks.

Staff:
The hotel staff were extremely accommodating. Nothing more to say. Just smiles and more smiles on top of the excellent service.

Beach:
Direct access to the powdery white sand. After unwinding in our rooms from the hassle free transfer from the airport, we headed to the beach. Just ask for some beach towels from the front desk and they'd give you clean ones in a jiffy! Exclusive beach lounge chairs were available right up front. And there were about three small cabanas and one large cabana too. You could schedule to have a massage in one of these just about any time of the day. We had ours at around 8 at night which was lovely. Peace and quiet plus the cool sea breeze... Raves about the island's sands were true. It didn't burn my feet even as we walked bare foot during midday.

Location:
As I said, out the back entrance you could flag down the many tricycles and get a 7php right to just about anywhere. D' mall is just a few minutes away and the convenience store was a lifesaver if you wanted to stock up on light snacks and some much needed h2o.

Food:
We only took our breakfast here. Can't comment on what the hotel serves for lunch or dinner if any. One thing to note though was that we were treated to a breakfast buffet for Feb 14! A nice Valentine surprise! You could reserve a cabana for your breakfast. 4 people can fit nicely into a small cabana and the large one could accommodate in excess of around 8 adults I think.

Value:
A bit pricey but hey, if you want a nice no-frills place to stay in, wouldn't hurt to shell out a few extra hundreds for it!

Would I recommend this hotel? Does that still need answering? hehehe... can't wait to get back!

Sur was located in station 1 which for us is the perfect location for peace and quiet. It's near enough to walk to the party zone in station 2 but not too near to the noise. And it's not too far away from Diniwid beach (another serene spot in Boracay) either. The rates fit well within our budget and so I would say it's absolutely value for money. The place was just right for us - it was clean, well maintained, comfortable, safe, and the service was excellent. The owner Patrick was very friendly, so were the rest of the staff, and even Sarge the beach dog. The cabanas where we had our breakfast was very quaint and charming. The tapa that they served as a breakfast option was really good! The massage service that they offer by the beachfront is also reasonably priced and really good. And if you're shy about getting your massage outside, they allow the entrusted masseuse to enter your room for your own comfort and privacy.

In my experience traveling around the Philippines, I've seen many beautiful places- whether it be up north in the serene mountains of Baguio, or down south in the pristine waters of Bohol. However, there are only a handful of places which can truly capture the senses, and leave you mesmerized, and fascinated. And one of them is a place called Boracay!

A tiny island, nestled of the shore of Aklan, lies an island filled with beauty, allure, charm, and magnificence; Its sand, fine to the touch; its waters, clear and blue; its people, friendly and ever so accommodating; its atmosphere, ever so lively, and its resorts, well... that depends.

You see, Boracay is a diamond filled with many facets (many sides), and to totally enjoy Boracay, it is imperative that one understand which facet to look at and undertake. Unfortunately, not every side can give you a full blown experience. And this means, picking the right resort. But fortunately for me, I was able and blessed to experience boracay in a simple, but charming and auspicious resort named Sur.

When we first got there, we were wonderfully welcomed, rightly accommodated and given.... juice! Checking in did not take a long while, and not before long, we were handed the keys to our rooms- already this was a plus for them. So as we went up to check out our room (superior beach front), we found it to be clean and neat, and also fully furnished! And to our surprise, there was even a gift basket waiting for us compliments of the resort! Now moving on, their bathroom was nice aswell. It looked and felt comfortable- just the way a bathroom is supposed to be! Over-all, the room was lovely, and we definitely did not complain!

Now, if there is one thing that completes a resort it is service. And iam here to say that there is service is WONDERFUL. Whether it be a request for a massage, food, medicine, or information it was brought and given to us no problemo. Also, the staff was very friendly, and accommodating! Infact, we made friends with a few of them! Definitely an add-on to the trip!

As for ambiance- no complaints here! Ambiance was lovely! Cabanas, beach chairs and all, were put just in the right place, enough for one to relax, chill-out and enjoy the beauty of Boracay. And as for rates, no problem as well! Not the cheapest, but certainly affordable, and "pricetastic" for what you get.

Now.. you ask, "If Sur was so wonderful, why only four stars?". Well, yes, Sur is a wonderful resort! But Sur, also has its downfalls, and it was found in the food. We were not really happy with the food they served. Each time we would eat our breakfast (free btw), we felt like we were eating food out of the can, or instant-just-add-water-and-poof kind of food. So this compelled us to eat in other places around the center of the island. Well, atleast their food was on-time.

All-in-all, Sur made our Boracay experience wonderful, and simply unforgettable! Truly a facet to consider! ;p And to summarize with one word?

SUUUUUR'ific!

Me and 4 other friends stayed here on Feb 2008. Staffs were all fantastic and very accommodating, always willing to help with a genuine smile on their face - especially Donnel and Desiree. We love the ambiance and the serenity of this hotel, quiet and very relaxing. Breakfast on the Cabana was absolutely heaven. Room has a nice furnishing touch, clean and has an adequate space for the 5 of us :) there's a common lounge just outside the room for the smokers or simply, a place to hang-out and relax. Good location! Just right in front of the beach but a bit far away from the nightlife, which we actually prefer. Thus, if you’re looking for an accommodation near the nightlife, maybe this place won’t suit you though transportation is not a problem anyway, so what the heck! Just stay here anyway! Lol J definitely recommend this place.

Trip to Boracay for 2 nights 3 days was already planned before we arrived the Philippines. Wondering if SUR beach hotel is a place which will meet our expectations. When we stepped out of the shuttle, we was just amaze how cozy the place is. The path through the reception was green plants, colorful flowers and clean patios to the rooms. We was welcomed with big smiles and was followed to our rooms. We got an adjoining room, which was perfect for 2 and 3 occupants. Few minutes later there was iced tea brought to us in our rooms. Our teenagers hurried up to change and headed to the beach.
The sand and water was perfect! We sat in the bar to have some refreshment, I tried the cold calamansi juice and from that first glass it turned into addiction...lol! It was so gooooddd! We did have one breakfast in one of the cabana after a morning swim. Helpful and friendly people that helped us how to enjoy and spend our time in the island. And of course, a special mention to Rodel, we did have a good laugh with you. Don`t worry the sore is already healed...lol!
Can`t find anything to complain about, only that we regret to have departed so soon. We will definitely be coming back!!
