“Clean rooms, good service, economical choice”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 February 2011

I have been to Boracay a few times and stayed at several hotels. This is the first time I have stayed at a hotel off the beach. Personally, I prefer the beach hotels but this time we were on a budget and opted for the more economical choice of staying at Erus. We booked with Expedia and got a lower rate than Agoda or through the hotel.

For the positives, the staff was very helpful. They helped us arrange transportation from and back to the airport. The room was very clean and the bed was comfortable. The breakfast options were good and we enjoyed it every day. The hotel also provided beach towels. The security guard will help you cross the street if there is too much traffic. He will also get you a tricycle which will take you to D'Mall. The ride costs 50 pesos whether there is one person or five. The tv in the room was a nice big flat screen with ample channels - but we were there for the beach so we didn't watch much tv. There is also an in-room safe which is also helpful.

Things to consider before booking with Erus. The hotel is on the main road and if you are sensitive to tricyle or car noise, do not stay here. During the day, we could hear street noise from inside the room but we mostly stayed on the beach so it wasn't a big deal. We didn't have a problem sleeping at night but if I were to stay there again, I would bring ear plugs just to be safe. The noise issue could be rectified by the hotel - each room has a door but also a large glass window but everyone keeps the curtains closed or everyone could see right in to your room. But the glass window allows the sound in. Also, in the bathroom, there is a screen/vent to the outside but that means if you don't close the bathroom door, all the noise comes in.

Another important note is that the bathrooms in some of the rooms only have clear glass that separates the bathroom from the bed area. You will want to be very comfortable with your travel companion.

It does take a few minutes to walk to the beach but I didn't mind walking to the beach at all, or taking a tricycle to D'Mall but others might mind it.

If it were a small difference in price to stay on the beach, I would choose the beach but Erus suited our needs just fine.

Also a note that website photos are pretty true to the rooms. The rooms are small but are clean and modern.

The review requires me to recommend or not recommend to a friend, I would recommend this place to a friend but with all the considerations I have listed.

“Worst Hotel in Boracay!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2011

- Poor Service from the Receptionist ...They dont really know well the place.

-Noisy busy streets, hard to sleep at night. Because it's right on the main road.

- Bad location, takes 5-10 mins walk to the beach.

- Poor set meal breakfast.

-Dirty useless swimming pool. It's designed only for small people.

- Poor customer service.

Right after we checked-in and seen the rooms, immediately we decided to transfer to another hotel,we only stayed here for 2 night then we moved to beach front hotels in station 2. Really hard to sleep at night with all the horns and tricycles.

“If the Airphilipines flight was more reliable then this would be a great long weekend break”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2011

Ok, From Manila arrival you take the Air Philippines flight to Borocay. After that you need to take a short ferry to the island. Once you get outside the terminal, there are folk willing to take you in the tricycle for a fee but if you’re travelling light then the ferry is only a 5 minute walk from the local airport, so easy.
You have to go to three windows for three tickets for the ferry/tax/environmental tax. Then onto the ferry (an experience crossing the gangplank and not for the fainthearted) and finally onto the island. Another tricycle ride for 15 mins brings you to the hotel by a very busy road. The hotel is built like a courtyard and exacerbates the noises from the road. This is a problem for those wanting peace and quiet. The first room we were given was next to both the reception and where breakfast is served. There was no safe in the room. We changed after 4 hours as the noise was terrible from the road. Fortunately someone had moved out on the second floor further away from the road and whilst the noise level was better, it was still noisy. Don’t know how they could call these ‘Deluxe rooms’. Reception staff were very friendly and there was free internet available. Breakfasts were a set menu thing but not a problem to ask for more toast if required. No coffee making facilities. Good location for the beach and the many eating establishments, Very noisy with the music if you opted for a hotel by the beach. Good getaway but you get what you pay for. Return was spoilt (again) by Air Philippines who telephoned us to be at the airport an hour earlier then cancelled the flight once we arrived. Was bussed 60km to a place up North for a later flight (if we’d chosen this airport in the first place, the flight was cheaper). Double exit tax from this airport. The big downer for the short break was the insecurity of the local flight…thank goodness we didn’t have a connection though others being redirected did.

Nice boutique hotel and lovely breakfast BUT location beside main road. Never silence! Pool on 3rd floor useless, no chairs and dirty. Try instead cheaper hotel along the beach!
