“The only place to stay in Yogya”

Forget your multi national chains(although this is managed by Accor),this hotel has ambience a plenty due to its colonial design(including the new extension) and service.Rooms superb.food great and inexpensive, drinks pricey so stick to beer(£4 a pint). Always waiters to hand and concierge/front desk knowledgable.Location not quite perfect but few hotels are better. Situated on the corner of the main drag - Marlioboro st can walk to the Sultan's palace.Dont walk all the way down this street as the shops and markets dont get going till the train station. Get a taxi to the train station - cheap or a becek(carriage with push bike behind);latter is a must try anyway but taxis cheaper.
Book excursions downtown - Sosrowijayan st for e.g -hotel pricey.
Ask about ceremonies at Sultans palace before going.

Room Tip: Not above the bar. Preferablt on the right side so as to get a clear view of Mt Merapi -higher the b...

“Fantastic stay at the Phoenix”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2012

Had a fab time at this hotel and do not have any negative aspects to report. We booked on a discount voucher site and got a very competitive rate, despite this we were pleasantly surprised to be upgraded to a deluxe room.

ROOM:
The room size is very big, with king size bed, good quality linen, sofa, 40 inch plasma TV and huge walk in shower.

The room, amenities and all equipment was in very good working order.

The free WIFI was a bonus!

Food and Drink:
I found the food to be very well priced for a hotel in this class. We used the hotel restaurant on 2 occasions, room service on 2 occasions and ate breakfast every day. Each time the food was fantastic and well presented. Breakfast consisted of multiple choices of Local food (both indonesian such as nasi goreng and more specifically local to Yogja such as gedeg), Dim sum, Sushi, Egg and western (bacon & sausage etc), continental (croissants + cakes) , fresh fruit, fresh fruit juice (with a man who makes the juice fresh for you as you wait) + local tonic drinks. Huge selection and i ate a big brekkie with different foods everyday.

Staff:
The staff were great, and very friendly, warm and welcoming.

Overall:
Fantastic service, lovely hotel and great value. I previously stayed at the Melia Purosani, however this hotel was significantly better and offered far better value.

“Wonderful stay”

I stayed at this hotel during the Chinese New Year and had wonderful time. The building is a heritage and well maintained. The staff is excellent. The room is good with a spacious balcony overlooking the pool.

The pool is my favourite place to stay around and the restaurant is excellent. It may be a bit pricey as compared with the local restaurants but I think it's reasonable given the service and standards being offered.

There is a gym with a personal trainer on duty but the equipment is a bit outdated but overall it is adequate for my daily workout.

The location is OK and it's a still a long walk to the main street so I will recommend to simply take taxi around as there is not much activities/shops around the hotel area. Among the choice of hotels in this small town, I think Pheonix is the best.

“Charming Getaway from the Hustle and Bustle”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 February 2012

I spent my first night in Yogyakarta at the Phoenix Hotel. It is a serene and charming getaway from the crowded city. I would not recommend the breakfast as it is a little too pricey for what it is worth. But otherwise, I recommend this hotel for a family holiday, a firm / company retreat or a personal solitude experience. They have a fully equipped gym facility, a lovely pool and very approachable staff. It is located not too far but also not close enough to the main areas for you to be able to take a walk. The spa is also a little overpriced.

“Feels like home”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 February 2012

I was very happy to be able to stay in Phoenix hotel in Jogja. The room was clean, quite big space. The amenities are complete. The staff are very helpful as well. After one day city tour, it was always nice to be able to return to our room which comfortable and clean. Feels like home.
It's also close to city center.
