We stayed here solely because of the location and they would take a reservation early in the morning. After arriving, it became apparent that it was an awful value. While the lobby appears decent, and the staff was accomodating, the room was gross. It looked like it was nice 20 years ago, but we were met with brown, peeling wallpaper, questionable sheets, and dated ammenaties. We paid $35 usd...it would've been fair to pay $12 (considering the location). While there aren't a lot of midrange options in Jakarta, you're better off staying at a budget hostel, or be prepared to spend at least $50+

I was very disappointed with this hotel. The windows did not shut properly so the room was full of mosquitos, and the toilet did not fill up again for hours after it was flushed. I moved rooms, and the same 2 issues occurred in the second room. The bathrooms were not clean and there were small bugs/cockroaches in there. The sheets had been washed but there was old stains on them. The street noise was pretty loud in both the rooms I was in. The rooms were shabby, and the lighting was very dim. On the plus side, the staff on reception were mostly friendly and helpful, and the hotel is in a good, central location near Jalan Jaksa.

I only visited the hotel for one night on August 18, 06. Hotel Bumi Johar is supposed to be a budget hotel. From the décor it seems that the hotel was established around the late 80s and haven’t had ay thought of redecorating ever since. The bathroom pictures appear old (fortunately all of the fixtures work) and the rooms that my friends and I stayed in were very bland, al though the cleanliness and tidiness were very commendable.
There was a welcome drink for every guest and I thought that was nice, although I wondered why one of my friends didn’t receive it even though he stayed in a more expensive room than mine. Perhaps it was just a slight forgetfulness on the service. We had buffet for breakfast, and it was somewhat flat, but there were also some good Indonesian food among the variety of European, Japanese, and Indonesian dishes.
All in all, the service was quite good and the rooms were clean, and considering it was quite cheap, Bumi Johar Hotel is a place I might stayed in again.
