“Great place but take mosquito repellant”

We stayed two days in the Taman Sari to do snorkelling trips to Pulan Menjangan, which is fabulous - a must if you are in that part of Bali. However with the Taman Sari, there is an odd vibe in the rooms and they are oddly laid out due to the configuration of the outside bath area. The hotel rooms are pricey for what they are in the high season and the mosquitos are a nightmare. Do use mosquito repallants at night as the hotel mosquito repellants in the room and on the patio are no match for the persistence of the local mosquitos. We also had a mouse/rat come in the room at night and bite through a sealed plastic bag and the packaging of some dried fruit. The reception staff were mortified the next morning and very polite but no apologies offered -probably a response about 'saving face'. Otherwise the restaurant, beach location etc are all lovely but Pondok Sari is cheaper, with similar beach location and has better restaurant and worth a stay instead of Taman Sari.

“wonderful relaxing place”

After visiting various hotels in the village of Pemuteran, we were all mesmerized by the atmosphere of the Taman Sari Cottages. The owner, Mr. Agung Prana has the philosophy of things have to be in balance. This results in a hotel where only ca. 20% of the grounds is build. Cottages are spread over a beautiful lush garden, with lots of trees, also on the beach, providing ample shade.

The cottages are designed to meet every modern wish, but decorated in a tasteful Balinese style, with open air bathrooms, and private terrace with view on the beach.

Visiting the restaurant was a highlight twice a day! It has a mouth watering menu, and every dish was a feast for the eye too. Even our sons of 11 and 12 forgot there taste for pizza and hamburger, and explored the more exotic dishes.

The staff was very helpful and friendly. There is so much to enjoy an to do, that instead of our initial plan to stay a few nights, we stayed a full week and enjoyed every minute of it!

Nearby two private bungalows have been build, under the supervision of Mr. Agung Prana, that are suitable for groups up to 8 people . To be rent from this summer ,it looked very promising.

“A long car ride to get there but worth it for the peace and quiet”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 March 2009

We had stayed here before and wanted a second romantic hoiliday. The cottages are layed out as to no one is lookng at another one. They have outside bathrooms (walls of course) but you shower in the open air.I recomend you get the hot water upgrade it can be cold in the morning.Outside there is a out doors bed that is also surrounded by walls but sleeping out there in your mosquito netted bed and the ocean breaking yards away. There is a resturant on the grounds as also a bar that seems open as long as you like. Gecko's and gold fish surround your cottage. Honeymooner delight! Watch out thought there is not much else around but you and who you brought with you. They have a great massage area to help get the kinks out

“Kick back on a black sand beach”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 February 2009

We took two days to enjoy the glitz-free, holistic-minded retreat of the Taman Sari Beach Cottages. Our room had an open porch and a gauze-netted daybed for lounging, massages here are $10 an hour, the food is Thai and warm breezes soothe you by the black sand/volcanic rock beach...

“Beautiful room with a view”

We stayed in the Taman Sari for just one night for a quick stop at the beach for our honeymoon. We wish we had stayed longer!
The Taman Sari is supposed to be an eco-resort, and we picked this resort based on the recommendation of another hotel manager in Bali. We didn't stay for a long enough period to see how it really impacted the local people, although they did seem to have many employees. They also have been involved in rebuilding the coral reef.
We stayed in the Gecko house, which was utterly gorgeous. It had a second open-air level with a beautifully carved day bed with mountain and beach views. The bath room was outdoor with a pretty tree right in the middle of it! There was also this adorable moat around the building with a fun bird bath.
The food here was pretty good as well. I wasn't expecting there to be such a large selection of Greek and Mediterranean fare in Bali, but there were ample quantities of dishes from all over the world in addition to local food. I was a little thrown off when we were asked how we wanted our lobster cooked (rare, medium, etc.), as we just "cook it" here in the states. I had no idea that you could eat lobster rare. Anyhow, it was tasty.
The spa at this little resort offered the best massages of our entire vacation. Truly skilled masseurs, I felt utterly relaxed and renewed.
The beach was really nice, and we spent several hours snorkeling at one of the islands off the coast.
Next time we go to Bali, I think we will spend more than one day at this place!

  • Liked — The amazing spa, wonderful room, and gorgeous views!
  • Disliked — It was a little confusing to check in, but it was all taken care of.
