“Interesting hotel, not great location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 August 2010

The hotel is very grand, though some of the facilities are lacking. It feels much older than it is. Most people there speak no English so getting help with anything can be difficult. The room was fine, but the main problem is the location. There are other hotels within nice walking areas but this hotel was in an out-of-the-way location. I would not recommend the dining room. The breakfast buffet has toast and eggs, but also a lot of other food that did not look so appealing. The dinner buffet was not good.

“Hardware poorly maintained, software to be developed”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 July 2010

Acceptable hotel in this area where you would not have high expectations with respect to hotel management.
Prematurely worn out 3-yr old hotel with many things falling apart already in the bathroom, furniture etc ...
In some rooms, the covered panel part of the remote control for the air-conditioner is glued together, so only heating is available in some rooms in summer. Why do they do that ??!!
The lobby is dark, to save electricity I presume.
They actually keep a pet cat in the main restaurant. Great news for animal lovers, but eye-popping for the average " 4- 5- star hotel guests". The cat is called "Jun Jun", a lovely cat nevertheless.

“Rooms were fine, but lots of odd problems”

The location in Lhasa for this hotel is a bit out of the way, so there is no walking about of any interest. The rooms were actually quite nice (see the photos uploaded by previous reviewer), however the beds were extremely hard. One of our small group used the duvet from the extra bed in the room to sleep on top of. If you only have one bed in the room, you can request an additional duvet. The service in the restaurant hotel was terrible for dinner. There were only 3 menus in the restaurant that had any English on them, and nobody seemed to know what they were supposed to do. Food wasn't very good either, although breakfast buffet was entertaining. You must read the list of things they charge for, e.g. spot on carpet, damp floor, etc. They are not kidding. Do an inventory and evaluation as soon as you check in. They actually wouldn't let our group check out, because they claimed one 79-year-old was missing a condom in his room (not that I'm saying that's not possible....)

“Wonderful Hotel”

This hotel was recommended by China Highlights as part of the individual tour they arranged for us. The hotel, like all their arrangements proved to be an excellent choice. Only open about 8 months, it is very modern in a very interesting style. The rooms were very attractive and comfortable and included a steam machine to offset the dryness of the air. The staff was professional and very friendly, the food good. It was ideally complimentary to the city and its sights.

Stayed October 2007

We stayed at this hotel on our last night in Lhasa City. My wife and I were on the Qinghai-Tibet Railway & Tibet tour. This hotel was far far better than King Sun Grand Hotel we stayed earlier. (See my review on King Sun Grand Hotel, Lhasa.)

The room we stayed:
was clean & spacious
 had spacious wardrobe
 had a large TV set
 had a proper dressing table
 had a computer with internet access
 had 2 large single beds
 had bedroom slippers
 bedside cabinets and telephone
 had coffee table with 2 chairs
 had a very modern bathroom with
oglass wall & screen
onice toiletries
osaving mirror
otelephone
ohair dryer
ofuturistic weighing scale
otissue paper

  • Liked — Clean spacious room with modern facilities
  • Disliked — Placing the computer on the dressing table (should have a separate table for the computer)
