I love this hotel - I first stayed here in 1990 - imagine a Nanjing which was without any skyscrapers and this was the only one!!! I miss that Nanjing, how beautiful it was. Well now Nanjing is a metropolis and it is not all good but the Jinling has hardly changed at all. The lobby is a work of art, wide and beautiful and gorgeous with a lovely lounge bar running atop the lobby and a pianist too. Very relaxing. Staff are efficient and friendly. The coffee shop needs a certain something to bring it up to international standards now - the bakery goods for western tastes are awful - if you love a Chinese breakfast then this is the place to go, but it is is not a great breakfast for a western taste at all. Never mind, we are in China, but on the other hand - too many places offer good western breakfasts and so why not offer it? (they need a western chef). The rooms are clean and very nice but could be doing with an upgrade now. I stayed 6 years ago and they have declined. The Jinling is a good choice of hotel and Nanjing is looking like a modern city but in truth has not really got there yet - the Jinling is a reflection of that.
