“Sweet hotel that lets you zip over to Kowloon real quick!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 January 2012

We had read about the location deficits of this hotel before we booked. Since we weren't pressed for time, we felt it wasn't much of an issue. We've found it helpful to tell the taxi driver "Water Street" to get to the hotel.

We were given a room that faced other buildings, but it was very quiet, which we appreciated. Our room well designed with an attractive colour scheme and its space was well used. The bed area had good lighting for reading. There was a speaker system that could play the iPhone and the sound quality was rather good.

The service was impressive. We were here in winter and we felt that the room wasn't warm enough at the highest setting. The technician who came was pleasant and resolved the problem easily. The bathroom was quite attractively furnished. It did not have a tub, but had an overhead rain shower and a handheld shower head. The bathrobes were of good quality.

One thing we did not expect about its location was that getting to Kowloon would be really quick. Just across from the hotel lobby was a bus stop. From this stop, bus service 970 or 973 would immediately enter the Western Tunnel and emerge on the Kowloon side two minutes later! The first bus stop on the Kowloon side got us to the Kowloon MTR station and the shopping mall adjoining it, Elements, with a bit of walking. It did not take too long to get to Nathan Road either. There is a 60 HKD charge to use the Western Tunnel if you take a taxi, though, which can double or add significantly to your taxi fare.

We took a tram from Wan Chai back to the hotel and I found it pleasant to look at the kind of shops (older, selling things like dried seafood) they had in the Sheung Wan area. We knew when to drop off when we spotted a building with big letters saying "160 Connaught Road West" to the right of the tram.

Overall, staying here was smooth and pleasant.

“A great deal if you book through Priceline and get a free upgrade because of your Marriott points.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 January 2012

We had a low rate and were upgraded to the executive floor so life is good! While it's not my favorite hotel in HK, it was quite comfortable.

We have been in HK numerous times and have Octopus cards for riding public transport. The tram stop is less than a block away making connecting with the MTR easy if not speedy! We didn't use the free shuttle.

Our room had a nice view of the harbor, and was larger than other hotels we've stayed in.

The staff was very friendly and helpful. The only dink I can give them is for over-perfuming the lobby. Having read other reviews, it could be to mask the smell from the nearby dried fish market!

“Good hotel but location could be better!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 January 2012

We stayed in this hotel over the new year period 2011/12 so were expecting increased room rates, but for what we got I'd say this hotel is over priced, nearly £200 per night for room only.
Being fairly out of town and at least a 10-15 minute brisk walk to the nearest train station, we tried to make the most of the free shuttle bus which dropped you in town at prescribed times.
The hotel was very clean, staff were courteous enough (but to be honest we hardly saw them as we literally walked out at 10am and came home 9-10pm) and although rooms were very small the daily maid service and replenishing of free toiletries made up for this slightly.
I wouldn't recommend this hotel for its location but perfectly suitable for a comfortable stay otherwise

“Really great service, location may not suit some”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 January 2012

I knew this hotel was out of central Hong Kong as I have stayed in this part of town previously. I like being in a more "local" neighbourhood and I enjoy the trams which are virtually outside the door. What you loose in location you make up for in value. This would not suit people who do not want to get public transport. The tram is easy- make sure you have correct change for the fare (HK$2.30- the hotel will organise for you) and drop into the box at front of tram on exiting. Oyster cards can also be used. It will take you directly into centre of town in about 15-20 mins. Or to MTR station in 5-10mins. And watch your head- my very tall boyfriend got used to ducking!
There is also a courtesy shuttle which is handy if you coordinate you times as they only run every hour or so. Taxis are amazingly cheap and there is also a bus outside the front door.
The hotel is great- good rooms, clean bathrooms and excellent wifi. We asked for a harbour view room but looking at photos on other reviews I think a city view would be more interesting. Also the higher the better due to traffic noise. We were fine on floor 29.
Fabulous service- the staff cannot seem to do enough for you. Check in and out was quick and efficient and there was always staff floating about the lobby to help with any queries.
I would stay here again!

Room Tip: Higher floor city (east) facing.

“The hotel, which I want to leave”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 January 2012

We were living in Marriott four days. Room was on 17 floors. Hotel is located opposite the bus station, where from you can get airport. Near the hotel situated night store. The room window opened amazing view to city. Room is not big, but very comfortable. There is big, convenient bed, wardrobe, and iron with ironing board, fridge, kettle, cups, and glasses. I liked bathroom. There was all that I needed: hairdryer, shampoo, shower gel, soap, comb, bathrobe and nail file.
