We had read about the location deficits of this hotel before we booked. Since we weren't pressed for time, we felt it wasn't much of an issue. We've found it helpful to tell the taxi driver "Water Street" to get to the hotel.
We were given a room that faced other buildings, but it was very quiet, which we appreciated. Our room well designed with an attractive colour scheme and its space was well used. The bed area had good lighting for reading. There was a speaker system that could play the iPhone and the sound quality was rather good.
The service was impressive. We were here in winter and we felt that the room wasn't warm enough at the highest setting. The technician who came was pleasant and resolved the problem easily. The bathroom was quite attractively furnished. It did not have a tub, but had an overhead rain shower and a handheld shower head. The bathrobes were of good quality.
One thing we did not expect about its location was that getting to Kowloon would be really quick. Just across from the hotel lobby was a bus stop. From this stop, bus service 970 or 973 would immediately enter the Western Tunnel and emerge on the Kowloon side two minutes later! The first bus stop on the Kowloon side got us to the Kowloon MTR station and the shopping mall adjoining it, Elements, with a bit of walking. It did not take too long to get to Nathan Road either. There is a 60 HKD charge to use the Western Tunnel if you take a taxi, though, which can double or add significantly to your taxi fare.
We took a tram from Wan Chai back to the hotel and I found it pleasant to look at the kind of shops (older, selling things like dried seafood) they had in the Sheung Wan area. We knew when to drop off when we spotted a building with big letters saying "160 Connaught Road West" to the right of the tram.
Overall, staying here was smooth and pleasant.
