“Rooms are too small to be call a Hotel!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 January 2012

I travel to HK with my wife and my 3 yr old daughter last month and booked ourselves into MK and boy that was such a wrong choice!

I don't even know where to start... The room I stayed in was even smaller than the store room at my home. Imagine splitting a standard size hotel room into 2. That's how small it was.

Bed was not even queen size, but a super single. The room was so small, even if I wanted to let my wife and daughter sleep on the bed and me on the floor, there were not even space for me on the floor. I will not even want to stay in MK even if I am traveling alone. We booked the hotel for 3 nights at about US$123.00 a night, and when we call the reception to asked for a bigger sized room, they wanted us to top up an ADDITIONAL US$154.00 a night. In the end we forfeited our 3 night's room charge and change to another hotel instead. Such a huge disappointment...

I cannot comment much on the service as we check out within an hour after checking in.

“tiny rooms, thin walls, convenient location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 October 2011

booked this room for my recent stay in HK as my usual hotel was fully booked during that period & the prizes were high due to some exhibition / trade show on that week.
i got a cheap room - single bed without windows which was going on offer on a hotel room website. it still cost me SGD120 per night (with tax).
the location was convenient enough - took a taxi from the Kowloon airport express station about HKD25 - and it was pretty quick, the MTR stations : Mongkok & Yaumatei are both within 5-10min walking distance (depending on how fast you walk) since the hotel is situated somewhere in the middle of both stations. There's alot of food, KTV, shops etc around the area so its bustling and you wont be bored or hungry.
I felt it was a bit funny though that the lobby and the hotel room lift area was a separate block (although its side by side). I guess its due to space constrains in HK.
The room i got was really tiny - image just a single bed with a narrow walking space fit for only 1 person beside the bed. Hardly any space for luggage (luckily I brought a small one) its got basic amenities : tv, bedroom slippers, some toiletries, kettle, cup, hangers but thats about it. The shower plus toilet is really tiny and just sufficient for basic usage. Dont expect any luxury. I thought there was an odd sewer smell in the toilet, but i figure its just HK smell, there's this tendency for sewerage smell around the city, I notice, through my many travels to HK.
The bed is comfy enough and generally the room is clean.
The walls are thin though and I could always hear people walking by, talking etc. The chambermaid comes quite early in the morning (7+am?) to check the area and clean. I could hear her every morning while still lying on my bed.
The level of service at the frontdesk is just passable. like OK. same basic style of service in line with the hotel amenities & facilities, dont expect 5 star service. they definitely can be more helpful and friendly - the guy at the baggage keeping area is OK though - quite friendly and they all speak English.
If you are just looking for a cheap place to crash at night, convenient and close to shops etc, this is an alright place to stay, dont expect any frills or high levels of service. (ref to the selection on trip advisor : there is a swimming pool in this establishment?)

Room Tip: get a larger room if you have alot of luggage

“MK Hong Kong Hotel look like Mafia hotel , bad enough .”

On 26th august 2011 i booked 7 nights with 02 credit card , i paid 324.60 euro with this card, i have the receipt . And on the 31st august i go to check in MK Hotel Hong Kong and the female hotel reception say that i did not pay . I showed them the receipt of the 02 credit card statement and they not believe . That night i sleep outside in public garden , and in the morning go to Mongkok police station and report a complaint , the police talk with the hotel staff and they give me a room, and the following morning they phone me again and say i not pay, and they tried to throw me out. And i again went to the same police station, and report to them , the report number 11047410 and 11047330, and the police number spc47336 and spc 50996. And the police checking the statement of the credit card company and the hotel took the money already. The police talk to them again , and they give me back the room . The same day i go to Hong Kong Tourism Board and report to them, and they found out this Hotel was before " HAMPTON HOTEL ",which had a bad reputation by cheating many customers, and the Hong Kong tourist board report to the Hong Kong consumer council. And the Hong Kong consumer council they send to me via email in Chinese language, and say that i should forget making the complaint ? why the consumer council give me that advice ? is the consumer council something wrong ? or connection with the hotel ? so i report to the tourism board and assistant manageress Ms Bakky Cheng, and tell her something wrong and if she could investigate what the problem might be. ? "So i paid for my room and still had to sleep in the street, are you Happy or not, " please remember that MK Hotel is bad enough, this is not the right place to stay, so be carefull they have a lot of bad record. You can find out in the , tripadvisor.ie . This story give me a bad memory in Hong Kong , everyone must be carefull booking MK Hotel Hong Kong
