“Fantastic Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2012

A wonderfull hotel in Hong Kong. Fine atmosphere, swimmingpool, airconditioning (you'll need that!) and the city at a walking distance. The hotel is situated next to the peek-tram, a big tropical park and 'Soho', with all his cafe's and restaurants. All rooms have big windows for a nice view over the city. Try to get one on the upperfloors. There's also a good supermarket next to hotel.

“Great place to stay whilst visiting Hong Kong”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 February 2012

The Garden View, YWCA, on Mc Donnell Road is a very convenient place to stay whilst exploring HK, they give a discount if you stay longer than 7 consecutive days. transport links from hotel are good, either the mini bus or a taxi...or even better walk across to the botanical garden and meander on foot past the old Governor's Residence and St John's to central.
To Lang Kwai Fong, Stanley Street or the lanes of Queens Road Central. You can even walk to the star ferry it is not as far as it looks and all down hill........

The Hotel position is great and excellent value for money, staff pleasant and there is a Parc and Shop supermarket in Coda Plaza next door where you can buy fruit juices and croisants for a continental style breakfast. As someone who lived and worked in HK I cannot think of a more convenient place to stay whilst exploring all HK and the islands around HK have to offer. Whilst I lived in Hk my visiting relatives stayed in this hotel and now when we go back to visit Hk we stay.....
Be daring and go for a hike on Lantau walk from Discovery Bay to Silvermine bay and you will be amazed at the greenery and vistas!! Or buy a little guide highlighting interesting walks around HK, always carry a bottle of water wear proper hiking boots and your mobile phone....and walk with friends or ( not alone) in pairs as it is possible to get lost and or fall so do be safe when venturing out into the country side of which there is plenty.

Room Tip: If your budget is not too tight go for a junior suite and if you can stay for 7 nights and get the d...

“Great option for the price.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 January 2012

This mid-levels place is great if you want a place near the action but don't want to pay premium prices. When arriving at the hotel, please enquire about local transport and dining/shopping options. Rooms are comfortable and staff are helpful.

“Great value, pleasant hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 January 2012

We stayed for 3 nights on our way back from Australia. Very pleasant staff, room was fine (not very spacious but all you need). The walk down to Central through the Botanical Gardens/ Zoo each morning was amazing (and free)! Taxis back in the evening are so inexpensive (about 20HKD) so save your legs! Overall a very good experience for our first time in Hong Kong. Pity they dont have free wi fi.

“A pleasant stay...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 January 2012

At 1100 HKD without complimentary breakfast, it was a bit steep for the size and amenities offered. We stayed 4 nights. Room was very clean, the staff was prompt in their service. They offered 2 small bottles of drinking water on the first day. After that every bottle consumed was chargable at 10HKD. Our room was on the 15th floor overlooking the park. The view was nice.

Peak tram is a 15-20 minute downhill walk. Botanical gardens are a 5 minute walk from the hotel. The nearest bus stop is a 10 minute walk along the periphery of the botanical garden. After getting out of the hotel, take a right and walk along the footpath (pavement) till you reach a concrete foot overbridge which takes you on the opposite side of the road and ends inside the botanical garden. You keep walking downward along the path which runs adjacent to the garden. You will pass by the US Consulate and St. Joseph's church. Keep walking down...
The first bus stop down that path is for buses 12 & 12A. Walk a bit ahead to the next stop and you will get bus # 40. All these buses go to Admiralty/ Central. The buses drop you at admiralty bang opposite "The Pacific Place". From here you can catch the MTR to pretty much anywhere in HKG.
For those who are not in a hurry, you can walk from the hotel to Hong Kong park, and go right through the HKG park (not to be confused with the botanical garden) to come out at Admiralty on the other side, from where you can take a bus/MTR and go pretty much anywhere.

The above mentioned route is easy, because you're walking downhill to the bus stop. The same walk back to the hotel is quite a trek, due to the slope. Hence, unless you're young and in good shape, I'd advise taking a cab back from admiralty/ central.

For those who find the 30$ cab fare back to the hotel outrageous, there's a bus (12A I think), which drops you on a road parallel to Mac Donnell road (Robinson road I think) which is uphill to the hotel. So you can then walk down to Macdonnell road. This bus goes around the Botanical garden, taking a somewhat roundabout route. So initially when it reaches the garden, don't get off. Wait for it to go all round and come back to Robinson road.

In summary, getting to sights from the hotel is easy, but getting back is quite a task.
