Still in the charterhouse while writing this review. Rooms were reasonably priced for causeway bay area but when we got the bill we were surprised by 10% additional service charge to the room charges. Also when we asked yesterday if the breakfast was included, both the front desk officer and concierge said that it was. However upon eating we discovered that an additional HKD 99 per head was charged. A little misunderstanding since we dont speak cantonese. although more people in HK speak english than other parts of China, knowing a few phrases in cantonese would immensely help. The staff however were friendly accomodating. We usually asked them to write down the names of our destinations in chinese so we could show them to the cab driver. The rooms though small and a little dated were clean with a tub in the bathroom. However my parent's room although designated non-smoking reeked of smoke so they asked to be transferred. Location is good. The front desk officer said that wifi was absent in our floor 13th, but we did manage to connect now and then at high speeds. It was free and accessible in the lobby. The nearest MTR station at times square building is about a 5-10 minute walk through a wet market which was filled with live and fresh seafood and fruits. It was our first time to stay at the hong kong side of hong kong and although we missed familiar shops at the kowloon side, we found this area to be newer, with more tourists and more exensive shops. But this is just my opinion. So we scheduled a day to visit tung chung before we leave for hopefully cheaper shopping :). We ate lunch at the famous crystal jade restaurant at 3pm at IFC mall and found it packed. The xiao long bao, a pork dumpling eaten with red vinegar and ginger is definitly a must try. Water is not usually served in restaurants especially along the street so unless you bring you own, be prepared for the staple hot water or tea. I learned that "mixed meat" dish actually consists of innards, seafood, sausages and tofu... but actually quite tasty. So for the less adventurous gourmands, stick with chicken or beef :) or try mcdonalds which i learned serves soup and red bean pie too for dessert. February is a wonderful time to visit since the weather is still cool which is my excuse to don my leather jacket and boots, a treat for someone who lives in the tropics! As for the charterhouse, try it out but keep my advice in mind :) and try to get a mountain view room for a better experience. Till my next review!
Room Tip: Mountain view, higher floors. For some reason the 12th floor smells like smoke.

Dear guest,
Thank you for your comments shared on Tripadvisor.
We are sorry to learn that there are some misunderstandings about the service and breakfast charge.
First, it is found that the 10% service charge is shown on our hotel booking platform, together with its guarantee and cancellation policy. Second, I believe that the front desk officer had tried to promote the discounted breakfast offer upon your arrival which might result in an impression that breakfast was included. In fact, the hotel provides another package called Executive Plus that includes daily buffet breakfast and internet access.
From time to time, we received many interesting comments about their shopping experience in Hong Kong. Apart from the branded shops selling expensive items, there are many mid-scale shops around the Wanchai and Causeway Bay area of which you can find some bargaining deals.
We appreciate your compliment on the friendly service of the hotel. For your next visit, please inform us your preference for non-smoking room. Close to 50% of the rooms are non-smoking rooms. Our front desk officers could have rooms pre-blocked in advance prior to your arrival.
We look forward to serving you again in the near future.
Yours sincerely,
The Hotel Management Team
