I stayed here for 8 nights in the beginning of January. I chose this hotel because i have family that live in Shatin so i wanted to be close to them rather than be in the middle of Kowloon/Hong Kong Island.
Room is spacious (for HK standards). We had 3 people in one room. Two singles with a roll-away bed. The single beds were super comfortable, but the roll-away did not have much support and sleeping on that for 8 nights isn't probably the best for your back. Being the winter, rooms were a bit chilly. I don't think the heating in our room was configured correctly. We were freezing at night! We had to call for extra sets of comforters. we turned the thermostat to the highest and when we put our hands over the vent, it blew out cool air.
If you are not planning to be out of your room before 8am, hang the Do Not Disturb sign on your door. We were woken up at 8:30am by the housekeeper 2x. The 1st time, to ask us if we wanted our newspapers when he could simply hand it on the hook outside our door and the 2nd time to clean our room. We were in the middle of getting ready (10am) when housekeeping knocked to ask when they could come back to clean. However, whenever we returned from our day out, the room was cleaned perfectly. Clothes that were left laying around, folded and placed in a neat pile. Beds were made and extra comforters folded neatly on the couch. Bathroom was spotless and all of our toothbrushes, makeup, contact cases, etc. neatly lined up against the wall.
The room itself, the location, and everything else would be a 4 if not for the Front Desk staff. I checked in on the first day around 3:45pm, 45 minutes after the check-in time. Phoebe waved me over and greeted me with "I need your ID." I had just left my passport in the safe of my family member's house and i said i didn't have mine, but my boyfriend had his so he offered his. The reservation was under my name, so she said she absolutely needed mine. I told her again I didn't have it and told her the reason why. She then asked for a Hong Kong ID. I told her i was a visitor from the US and did not have a HK ID. I told her i would bring in my passport later that night when i got back from dinner. i had family members parked in the front. We were planning on dropping off our luggage in our rooms before heading out again. She basically repeated again and again for a passport or HK ID and i kept telling her i didn't have it. I told her again 3x i didn't have an HK ID either because i was in HK just for a visit! i offered my driver's license, which she did not take. There was no language barrier. Phoebe spoke perfect English and I know enough Cantonese to get around. My cousin, a HK native, stepped in to explain the situation, but she repeated everything she was saying to me in Cantonese and told him to ask me for a passport, which i responded in Canto, "I told you I don't have it on me!" At one point, she asked if my mother was coming. i looked at her in disbelief and asked why would my mother be coming!? In the end, she took my BF's passport and put his info down and again stated she absolutely needed mine. They didn't even have a room ready at that point! We dropped off our luggage at the bell desk and ran out of there. We came back later around 11pm (with my passport!!). A different staff member checked me in. As i walked up to the desk, he looked at me and waited for me to speak. I told him i wanted to check in and handed him my passport. He tapped away on his computer and handed me my rooms keys. Not a word or smile came out of his mouth during this entire exchange. The whole check-in process had ruined my first impression of this hotel, but the room and convenience of the hotel sorta made up for it over the week i was there.
