I stayed at this hotel over Christmas 2011 and spent an unforgettable 5 days in Hong Kong. The hotel is located opposite the Hung Hom MTR station (mass rapid transit system). Getting there from the airport was easy as Harbour Plaza have multiple hotels in the city and have their own hotel counter at the arrival hall. They can organise a bus or taxi service there for a fee but make sure you have your hotel details including the right Harbour Plaza hotel listed! The alternative I had taken was the Airport Express train to Kowloon. The ticket was reasonable (think it was HKD$90 one way) and I got off at the Kowloon station. Free hotel shuttle buses were available from the Kowloon station and brought me straight to the hotel without any hiccups!
The hotel itself is of a good standard. The staff were generally very well-trained and helpful by Hong Kong standards. The hotel rooms were average-small sized by international standard but veered towards a good size by Hong Kong standards. I have lived in a room half the size in another hotel and did not enjoy it! The 'Superior' room I stayed it was furnished to a usual standard and had an 'old school' CRT TV. The latter was not a problem for me. More important was the room was clean. I did read another fellow Tripadvisor's experience of only cold air blowing from the air conditioner and must agree with this though coming from British winter meant this wasn't a problem for me. Wi-fi incurred a hefty fee and I was surprised by the lack of free Wi-fi access across the city.
The location of the hotel was so very ideal next to the MTR station. It allowed an easy commute around Hong Kong with their spotless, efficient and affordable MTR. The hotel also has a complimentary shuttle mini-bus that takes you right into the Kowloon/ Tsim Tsa Shui district which is a hive of activity by day and night. Another alternative to travel to and fro from Tsim Tsa Shui to the hotel is a stroll along the harbourside and Avenue of Stars towards the planetarium. For me, this leisurely stroll was best done at night and had taken me about 25 minutes one way.
The hotel has good facilities and were complimentary; a decently equipped gymnasium, pool and jacuzzi were hardly used when I was there. The pool and gymnasium on the 9th floor podium gave a lovely view and I had a dip at night. There was also a sauna in the changing rooms, thus, one couldn't use the sauna with your other half if you were heterosexual!
I did not patronise the restaurants during my stay but they did look busy and a friend of mine told me breakfast there was pretty highly rated! I chose to eat in the nearby eateries at the Hung Hom station. Fast food (Western and local) were readily available. I also tried 'dim sum' at the shopping mall that was adjoining the hotel and easily accessible via a covered walkway.
Will I return for another stay? I'm already planning to do so!
