“A wonderful hotel that knows what it's doing and is at ease with itself.”

Rooms are great and while not huge are plenty big enough and have wonderful bathrooms.

Amazing restaurants – we had dinner at Pierre on New Year’s Eve and it was a wonderful experience the food and service were excellent – friendly waiters who knew when to be there and when to be discreet. We also had dinner at the Mandarin Grill and again wonderful food – and brilliant service – can’t be faulted.

Breakfast in the Cafe (non-buffet) has to be the best: quiet, lazy if you want and a great choice. Turn left not right when you get the mezzanine!

Also worth a word is the Concierge service – hugely helpful and can book most things – even if they are full! They also have tickets for the airport train (which is, incidentally just across the road and very fast and easy to use).

There is building work around the harbour area and it will be great when completed. Two things: one it does look a bit of a mess if you have a harbour view room – but second, there is no noise in the room at all – so go ahead and book a harbour view room any way!

One strange thing – in this modern age they charge (quite a lot) for the use of wifi. Well at least they would- but on both occasions we stayed in January – we complained and they didn’t charge either time!

Room Tip: Harbour view room-but make sure you get one at the front not the side of the hotel.

“my favourite HK hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

This place is an institution for a reason. In my view, it is the most conveniently located hotel in Hong Kong if you are there on business - a stones throw from Landmark, Princes Building, Exchange Square, Chater House, Cheung Kong Center etc etc as well as very close to the MRT and ferry.

The rooms are small but perfectly formed. They don't have the space of either the Four Seasons or Upper House but are very comfortable, well thought out and quiet.

The service is always impeccable. There is never a wait for anything. The staff are extremely professional and accommodating, nothing is too much trouble. On one of my last trips when I reached the airport for departure approx 1.5 hours prior to take off, I realised that I had left my passport and jewellry in the safe in the room. Quick as a flash, the hotel rep at the airport called the hotel manager and explained the situation. The hotel manager went to my room and removed the contents of the safe and put them in an envelope that he personally sealed and signed then they gave the envelope to one of their drivers to bring to the airport for me. All the contents were there and delivered quickly with minimum fuss. All in time for me to still catch my flight!! I love this hotel!!

“The flagship of the Mandarin Oriental Group for good reason”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012 via mobile

Used to stay here all the time but circumstantially stopped going for 5 years. However when I checked in a few days ago after a long flight I was stunned not only to find that they remembered me but also all my preferences. Formalities all completed in my room. A valet arriving to take my suits for pressing without even having to ask. My shirts came back with buttons restitched because a previous hotel had mismatched the thread!! You cant teach this level of service. The barman saying welcome back.knew about my business itinerary and advised me on good places in the hotel to meet and twlk with people.Overwhelmingly impressed with this place and as a frequent Mandarin user, this is THE best.

“Timeless jewel still shines”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2012 via mobile

We have been traveling to Hong Kong for over 30 years and have stayed at the Mandarin over a dozen times. It is like a home away from home. However, the typical home gets worn over time. Not the Mandarin. They have kept ahead of the challeges of an old building and while the rooms are small they are exceptionally well appointed and offer good technology connections etc. The service is as good as Asia can offer and the various food outlets are up to date. The Grill is completely upgraded and was wonderful for a reminiscent breakfast. Two small problems arose. First, the electronic keys were unreliable. We had to go downstairs several times. Taxis are always a problem in HK and the hotel could handle it better to make sure guests get to engagements on time, particularly at night. Small issues for the reliable Grand Dame of Asia.

“A truly superb hotel”

The Mandarin Orinetal HK is by far the best hotel we have been fortunate enough to stay in. We had a fantatsic delux oriental suite with harbour views for six nights over Christmas. The room was suprebly appointed with every thing you would need from a spacious, grand bathroom to, warm and comfotable bedroom , large but cosy lounge and fully stocked work desk with all the stationary and electronics that you would require. We also dined in Pierre , excellent, the Mandarin Grill & Bar , superb. We had breakfast in the Clipper lounge and Cafe Causette, both wonderful. Dined also in the Chinnery , brilliant, and had many a drink in the Captains Bar and M Bar both have which have great atomospheres. For cake lovers the cake shop is a must. The most oustanding feature was the incredibly high level of service and attention to detail by all the staff. An example would be when we asked the concierge for details of how to visit the Peak , the use of the peak tram, visting the Big Buddha and the use of the cable car and the ferry to Macau and a lunch reservation in MO Macau. Not only did we get excellent advice but the concierge organised all the reservations and got all the tickets we needed. Therfore we did not need to queue at all we just had plenty of time to enjoy the experiences. I would say that you would find it very hard to find a better hotel in the world than this.

Room Tip: We ahd a lovely corner suite which meant we overlooked the harbour
