“EXPENSIVE!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012

OK, Hong Kong is an expensive place to stay in a hotel and to eat, but here was extortion! What really got us was breakfast ... more on this in a minute.
The hotel isn't cheap and is in a great location right next to Pacific One Shopping mall and the Admiralty metro line.
The welcome was great with tea, chocolates and wine waiting for us in the room and the rooms were very nicely appointed.
However it would appear that all the drains are connected, at least on our side of the hotel, as when anyone used their taps / showers / toilets, it sounded like a train going through our room. This would typically start around 10pm and last to around midnight, then start up again around 6.30!!

And now breakfast, we asked about breakfast, I cant remember exactly how much it was but for adults it was about right for a JW Marriott, around 260++ HKD I think. We have 2 children, 6 and 4. Normally they are free in places like this for Breakfast, or there is a nominal charge, yet here they wanted to charge the children 160++ HKD each to eat breakfast? I am sure it would be amazing, but really, my 4 year old would manage half a bowl of cereal and maybe half a chocolate croissant. I even tried explaining this to them, but they were not budging, 160++ HKD each.

There are better value equally as nice hotels in Hong Kong.

Room Tip: Ask for a quiet room and hope for the best!

“Everything you'd expect from a business hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 February 2012

The standards of service at this property are impeccable. The staff are omnipresent and efficient, although somewhat impersonal. The rooms themselves are showing their age, and could stand a face lift. While very functional, the carpeting was a bit tatty and the a/c system made enough noise to be annoying, but luckily it was winter time so there's really no need for the ventilation at night. The bed was very comfortable - plenty of big pillows and fresh linens every day. The bathroom, while on the small side, was well equipped. Overall, this hotel is very functional. It was fine for a business trip, but I would want something more spacious and homey were I travelling for pleasure. The hotel restaurants over a wide range of cuisine, and each was very good. The Asian soup bar in the lounge was fantastic, as was the breakfast buffet. The gym facilities are so-so, located on a lower floor with no natural lighting. The overall ambiance of the facility is claustrophobic, but again it is functional. I particularly appreciated the availability of TRX equipement, which one rarely finds in hotel gyms. I'd return to this hotel given its convenient location and standard.

“Great Stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 February 2012

We had a great time enjoyed the pool, the rooms are really nice and we loved the Chinese restaurant. We couldn't try the buffet for diner which was fully booked weeks in advance but the breakfast buffet was 5 stars.

“Great Location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 January 2012

We stayed at this Marriott for 4 nights following a two week cruise from Singapore. The staff was some of the best we have ever experienced in our many travels. The location is minutes to the park and it is possible to access the Pacific Place shopping mall from the hotel. This turned out to be a godsend for us as the weather was terrible during our entire stay and the people watching in the mall was free cinema. The fact that the hotel is not closer to other (more interesting?) parts of the city was not a drawback. Taxis in Hong Kong are very inexpensive and the drivers are very knowledgeable.

Our room was located on the 25th vloor over-looking the harbor. It was small for two people with two large bags. I agree with the comments of another guest who suggested there was too much "stuff" on the counters in the bathroom. Perhaps the hotel could place all of those boxes in a drawer or closet.

The selection of tv channels with US news or international sports (the Australian Open was unavailable on Marriott tv's) was dismal! Having said that, stays at other Marriotts in foreign venues suggests that this is a consistent theme with Marriott.

If you like Cantonese food, we found the restaurant to be quite good with excellent service.

Room Tip: High Floor with harbor view.

“Wonderful Hospitality, Views, and Amenities”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

We stayed 6 nights (2 rooms). Although the rooms were on the smaller side, anything we needed was provided within our living quarters. There were so many elegant touches and great amenities. The service was beyond all - and the JW pride was visible throughout the entire staff. We loved the people and hospitality at the JW Marriott. It sure made our trip to Hong Kong!
