Stayed two nights after coming over from Kowloon to be in Wan Chai & near C'bay.
First impressions - packed lobby with lots of groups and luggage and not an empty seat in the "lounge" part of the lobby. Two entrances to the hotel - for pedestrians on Jaffe and also a round about on opposite side - good for taxi drop off if the driver knows or can find it.
Efficient, robotic check-in - no real feeling of being welcomed - just another customer to process. English of front desk staff and bell hops was rudimentary at best. Given room key and not offered to be shown to room or have luggage carried up - perhaps because I had a roller board.
Booked a room on their club floor that included free internet access (through an ethernet cable - which was provided), breakfast, tea and evening cocktails in their club lounge on the 23rd floor.
King bed on the 20th floor. Room smaller than what I had on Kowloon, but the well planned and efficient use of space made up for it. Large closet and wall length desk & window that accommodated everything and provided light. View of neighboring apartments and a bit of the the peak. . Narrow bathroom with stand up shower room with rain spigot and hand held wand. Hair dryer in drawer. Lots of toiletries on offer.
Flat screen TV mounted on wall in front of bed. Bed was extremely comfortable with white pillows and duvet. Minibar under desk that included sodas, spirits, nuts and candy. Drawer with kettle, selection of teas, instant coffee and glassware. Two free bottles of mineral water per day. Per per view movies.
Room was well maintained, clean and heard very little sound from hallway or other guests.
The Club Lounge on the top floor of the hotel was worth the upgrade with lots of room to work, read, socialize or eat. Nice view of the harbour. Hearty breakfast that would not leave anyone hungry. Open bar to make your own cocktails.
Checked the buffet restaurant on the 2nd floor and found it un-appealing. Small coffee shop with pastries and sandwiches in lobby. Pacific Coffee outlet next door.
Swimming pool was closed for renovation. Smallish sized gym that local workers use during their lunch hour, Included treadmills, stationary bikes, free weights and weight machines.
Location is one block from Hennessy Street with the many buses, trams. In the thick of local Hong Kong life with wet market, fish ball & cooked chicken/duck stalls nearby. McDonalds, Burger King, Starbucks as well. 10 min walk to Times Square and a bit further to Causeway Bay shopping. Wan Chai MTR a 3-4 min. walk.
Felt I got a good value for what I paid A well maintained, mid-range property that is mostly self-service.
Room Tip: Club rooms worth the price as very hearty breakfast is served and free (non-wifi) internet.
